For those who don’t know, a typhoon struck Taiwan last week and we got a day off. We have to do a lot of preparation before a typhoon strikes. And most importantly, we have to go shopping at the grocery store or supermarket to stock up(儲存) on food. What are you go-to foods when a typhoon is raging(肆虐) outside the window? I die for a steaming(冒蒸氣的) cup of instant noodles in the stormy night while curling up(蜷縮) on my couch and watching some movies. But other than getting prepared for a typhoon, we go to grocery store to shop for everything necessities(n.必需品) all the time. And today’s video tells us about all the ways you might have been doing shopping wrong. Go check out the video get it right next time you go shopping. But before that, let’s first take a look on sentence of the day.

1. bemoan [bɪˋmon ] (v.) 抱怨;悲嘆
It means to regard with displeasure(不滿), disapproval(不贊成) or regret, or to complain or to express sadness about something.
* Students are bemoaning the seemingly(似乎地) endless stream of homework and tests.
2. produce [ˋprodjus ] (n.) 農產品(新鮮的水果蔬菜)
It means of agricultural(農業的) products, especially the fresh fruits or vegetables as distinguishes(區別) from grains and other staple(主食) crops.
* The income(收入) of the farm depends entirely on its produce.
produce [prəˋdjus ] (v.) 生產;出產;製造
It means to make something or bring something into existence.
* This area produces some of the best teas in Asia.
3. to keep sth. in check (phr.) 控制;限制;抑制
It means to limit something.
* We have to keep our expenses(開支) in a check since we are expecting(預料) a baby.
Last but not least.(最後但同樣重要的)
4. in season (phr.) 當季的
If fruits and vegetables are in season, they are being produced in the area and are available and ready to eat.
* Our restaurant only uses the freshest ingredients in season that comes straight(直送) from the local farms.
out of season (phr.) 過季的,非當季的
If fruits and vegetables are out of season, they do not grow in the area during that time.
* We barely have watermelons in winter because they are out of season.
As a broke student, I do that all the time since fruits and vegetables are really expensive, especially in Taipei.
