How was your day so far? Welcome come to today’s pronunciation challenge. I’m your host, Winnie. And it’s an awesome day for a pronunciation challenge.
It’s officially November and it’s a season of love. Yes, that’s right, ‘cause it’s almost Christmas and it’s getting colder and colder and you really need someone there to hold you and keep you warm, it’s the season of love. A lot of my friends are receiving crazy texts from the miles asking them out, but odd thing I have noticed is that a lot of my friends are going through breakups as well. So from this month, all the ways till Christmas, if I can I’ll try my best to pick videos about relationships and talk about it with you guys.
You know, like we said Christmas is the season of love but it’s also a season of breakups. Maybe it’s a year end and people started to realize that the relationship doesn’t really work out. It’s pretty similar to the concept of getting a new job around this time. And as all of you may know, I like to share my life with you guys, I think it’s important to not just learn English but also learn about life at the same time. I [[ know I have been single ]] in the past 8 or 10 years. You might be thinking: Who are you talk to us about relationships? But hey, I mean people grow up, I learn a lot these years through [[ a series of events ]] that happened and the people that really touch my heart. And it really got me thinking this issue. So I really changed my thoughts on how I proceed relationships and what kind of an attitude I should have when I find someone that I really like. And you guys are my favorite people on the Internet so I wanna share that with you, and also, well, actually most importantly, help you learn through this topic. ‘Cause come on, everyone loves talking relationships.
So stay tune until the end. Let’s go through our lesson first. Today’s video is: “ Five signs a long distance relationship is NOT for you.” Alright, enough chip chat, let’s go through our sentence of the day: “ One, you rely on physical intimacy alone to feel close to your partner.”
1. intimacy [ˋɪntəməsɪ] (n.)親密;密切;曖昧關係 It means a situation in which you have a close friendship or sexual relationship with someone. * Intimacy between teachers and students is not recommended. I don’t know if it’s forbidden but it’s definitely not recommended. + forbid [fɚˋbɪd] v. 禁止 動詞變化 forbid[fɚˋbɪd] forbad[fɚˋbæd] forbidden [fɚˋbɪdn] forbidding
2. rely on (長期的)依賴;依靠;依仗 It means to need a particular thing or the help and support of someone or something in order to continue, to work correctly, or to succeed. So before we keep talking about this phrase, I think we should look at another similar phrase. That is depend on. So depending on someone or something basically means to trust someone or something and know that the person or thing will help you or do what you want or expect him/her or it to do.
So what is the biggest difference between depend on and rely on? For depend on, I feel like it’s a short term thing, it’s in that moment. For example, in a crisis, I’m depending on you. Alright, so that’s in a certain moment.
But if we look at the word, rely on, it’s more of a long term thing. For example, She relies on her meds to survive. That means she needs her meds in order to live, and basically that’s long term.
3. partner [ˋpɑrtnɚ] (n.)搭檔;夥伴;同伴 It means a person or organization you are closely involved with in some way. It‘s a very interesting word. So you use it in business, that means you’re partnering up with a person to run a company.
If you use it in friendship or when you’re in a game, it means you’re looking for someone who’s gonna play with you, that’s your partner.
And if you’re in school, and you’re looking people to work on a project, or like a presentation with you, that can also be a partner.
Now, the last I’m gonna tell you is actually the most important. Everybody knows now we’re living in a world of LGBTQ. Everybody has their own choices, sometimes it’s not just a boyfriend or girlfriend anymore. And if you’re worried that you might offend someone, you can just say your partner, It’s totally fine. * Sam and I have been great partners since elementary school.
Okay, that will be the end of our show. Alright, today’s topic is about long distance relationship. And this type of relationship is not for me because I’m probably gonna be broke, because I know I’ll be gonna miss this person a lot. So if I had a relationship, I’m certainly gonna make some changes about my future plans so that I can stay in the same country with this person. I feel like if you’re in a long distance relationship, you have to have a very strong self-control, you gotta learn how to control how you want intimacy, and how you really wanna be with your partner. And if you’re in a long distance relationship, like a long-term long relationship, you gotta also think about whether this relationship is gonna last if there’s any future in this relationship. So if you’re in love and can’t really be together, it’s a very painful thing. So for me, I would probably think about it twice. No matter how much you love this person, long distance relationship usually I don’t see it [[working out ]] fine. You just gotta make the best decision for two of you.
Is there anybody out there who is in long distance relationship? Tell me what you think and how you survive.
Please make sure to leave a comment and a recording because I want you tune in, and I’ll see you next time!
