In the script, Arther was to come into the bathroom, hide his gun, wash off his makeup, and staring at himself in the mirror like, “What have I done?”. And when we got to the set on the day, Joaquin and I just sort of stood around like, uh, this doesn’t really seem very Arthur. Why would Arthur care to hide his gun?
====================
Hello everyone! This’s Helena. Welcome to today’s pronunciation challenge. Today’s video is about the movie Joker. If you haven’t watched it yet, don’t worry, this’s not a spoiler. That means I won’t tell you what happened in the movie. Instead of showing a bunch of important scenes, the video only focuses on the processes of how they made one scene, where joker dances in the bathroom after he went through something transformative.

I think Joker is a very challenging movie for both of director and main actor, Joaquin Phoenix. However, I [[?was said]] that they did a really good job and producing a powerful movie. And you can really see how they are putting effort into capturing a right way to portray([porˋtre]扮演) joker and today’s video. But before we check that out, let’s look at our sentence first. In the script, Arther was to come into the bathroom, hide his gun, wash off his makeup, and staring at himself in the mirror like, “What have I done?”.

1-1. script [skrɪpt] (n.) 電影劇本;劇本;廣播稿;講稿
It means the words of a film, play, broadcast([ˋbrɔd͵kæst]廣播), or speech.
* He had written a number of scripts that eventually became famous movies.

1-2. script (V.) 為(電影、戲劇、廣播或演講等)寫稿
It means to write the words of a film, play, broadcast, or speech.
* A lot of parts in this play are not scripted but purely improvised by the actors.
+ improvise [ˋɪmprəvaɪz] v. 即興表演

2. hide [haɪd] v. 把…藏起來;躲藏
It means to put something or someone in a place where that thing or person cannot be seen or found, or to put yourself somewhere where you cannot be seen or found.
* Annie’s husband hid his money inside the pillow case so she couldn’t find it.

3. stare [stɛr] v.(尤指驚訝、害怕或思考時)盯著看,凝視,注視
It means to look for a long time with one’s eyes wide open, especially when surprised, frightened, or thinking.
* After l said the truth, she just stared at me as if l did something wrong.

Alright, that’s for today’s vocabulary. Back to the topic. I personally really enjoy watching behind the scenes video, because they’re real things behind the camera, such as how they actually film the movie and the director’s artistic intentions. They give me another perspective([pɚˋspɛktɪv] 看法) of the movie and they sometimes help me understand the things better.

What do you think of behind the scenes videos? Do you like them? Are they helpful? Share your thoughts and leave a comment below. Also remember to watch today’s video and record your sentence of the day. Alright, that’s all for today’s challenge.Thank you for listening. I’ll see you next Sunday!
