NOTE of today’ pronunciation challenge

Hey, VoiceTubers! How’s it going? How is your day so far? Welcome to today’s pronunciation challenge. I’m your host, Winnie. It’s an awesome day for a pronunciation challenge. So, I’m back, people, I’ve recovered from pneumonia. The Philippines was a whole lot fun, but really did a lot of damage to my body. I’m so kinda sick, I have a sore throat, so cough a lot, but you know, I’m fine, I healed.

I’m very excited about today’s topic, though, watching the video probably won’t make you that happy but today’s video reminds me of my lifelong goal that it’s to become a rich person, a billionaire, super rich. Yes, I know, it’s a very hard and I would say challenging goal. It’s like almost impossible, at least it was definitely a lot easier for the generations before. But I won’t let this idea discourage me. Let’s talk about why I wanna be rich. The think about financial freedom is that you get to do what you like to do. I’m not talking about smoking cigars ,or like drink expensive wine ,or anything. I’m talking about financial freedom you wouldn’t worry about money. You can really just focus on what you love and chasing your goals. Like, If I have enough money, I would definitely just dive in completely in the entertainment industry and just work on my theater career, go to audition, and of course making my own cooking show happen, as someone who graduate from college, you know, less than 5 years, you know, I think I‘m doing okay. But to have more room with money to do the things that I love, I would have to work and save some money first so that I can invest the show that I wanna to do. And yes, I’m gonna make that happen real soon, so make sure you follow me on social media, you wouldn’t wanna miss that.

Anyways, let’s back to what I was saying with money, you can sort of speed up the process of becoming successful. Later, dream and listen, I think I’ll tell you a story about a famous rapper, slash performer. And you’ll see why being rich may not the most important thing, but it’s definitely a great push, makes things so much easier.
+SLASH就是符號 “/” 的英文,意思是提到一個人的職業時,你很難用單一種職業去定義它,因此他在自己的職業上就會有很多的SLASH,例如:工程師/部落客/講師/作家,或者你也可以把它稱為”多重專業收入工作者”。

So the video today, it’s called “How is life different for billionaires?”. Let’s find out! Okay, people, you know the drill, we have to go through our sentence of the day. Here we go.

“while still lavish, this might give you an idea of how these billionaires have dissimilarity lifestyles.”

1-1. lavish [ˋlævɪʃ] (adj.)奢華的;豪華的
It means large in quality and expensive or impressive. So Christmas is basically right around the corner. Once September you know Christmas is already like in the middle of October, so it’s basically Christmas. So you know, every Christmas, I just wish I can receive some lavish gifts, some lavish presents. I mean, come on, who doesn’t like fancy stuff? And it’s Christmas. I know Christmas is about spending time with your family members, with your loved ones, but let’s be honest, having lavish presents and fancy presents is not a bad thing. It makes me happy.
Alright, so let’s look at my example sentence.

* Every Christmas I always wish to receive lots of lavish gifts.

The older you grow, the more you realize that celebrating Christmas is actually a very expensive thing. Before, we used to do present exchanging, like gift exchanging, we exchanged presents with my friends, we used to do good presents. And now, we just say you know what? For this year, we’re just gonna do garbage gifts because we don’t have enough money. So, yeah, that’s quite sad.

2. billionaire [bɪljəˋnɛr] (n.)億萬富翁;擁有十億家產的人
And next, we shall look at the word billionaire. It means a person who has money, property, etc. that is worth at least 1,000,000,000 dollars, pounds, euros, etc. Oftentimes, you probably hear millionaire, that’s basically a person who owns at least a million. Not only can you call rich people a millionaire or billionaire, you can just also call them wealthy people, because they have a lot of money, they are very wealthy so you can just call them wealthy people.

* I wanna be a billionaire so freaking bad, buy all the things I never had.

It’s a song from Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars. It was one of my favorite songs because I just wanna be a billionaire, I wanna buy a whole lots stuffs that I never had. I’m pretty sure that’s like everyone’s dream. When I become a billionaire, maybe just the billionaire, I think the first thing I’m gonna do is buy a motorcycle, like a super fast one because l love speed ,and maybe buy a go kart, so I can like drift in my backyard or something, yeah, funny dreams.

3. dissimilar [dɪˋsɪməlɚ] (adj.)不同的;有區別的
Lastly, we’re gonna look at the word dissimilar. It means different.

I think it’s quite important to know these synonyms for words. It’s gonna make your speaking more interesting, and you can have more variations(變化) in your wording(用語).

Dis means the negative.
Similar means the same. So “not similar” basically means different. So you put the two separate words together, dissimilar means different.
* The new building is dissimilar to the old one. I don’t know if I like it.

About the story, the famous rapper, slash performer is Pitbull. One day he decided to go to a record label company ‘cause he is rich. And he walks in, and he says okay, I wanna make a record because he is rich, he started out rich, so things were a lot easier, and he did made the song, and he got famous.

More of the story, you gotta be rich to have an easier path to success.
