NOTE:
Hi, everyone! I’m Lian. Welcome back to the pronunciation challenge. Happy Tuesday! It’s really good to see you guys here again. Do you enjoy the food from the food court? The smell and the color are indeed attractive. But sometimes the food is just not as delicious as it’s experienced. Watch today’s video and see what shouldn’t eat when we are in the shopping mall.

“If you must resort to eating food court atrocities, the least you can do is eat food that's made to order.”

you can make emphasis the sound on these words must, atrocity, least, food, and made. The sentence for today is a little bit shorter than before, so as the vocabulary is a little bit easier than before. So we’re going to focus on how to pronounce the words or the sentence more fluently and naturally, instead of dealing with the difficult pronunciation...

1-1. resort (v.) (有可以依靠的人事物) 訴諸於
The first definition of resort is to have recourse (n.依靠). For example, resort to force(訴諸武力) or resort to violent(訴諸暴力)

1-2. resort to + Ving (v.) 經常做
The second one is to do something especially frequently or habitually(習慣性地).
* Somebody resorted to going back to the same restaurant.
某人經常地要回到同一家餐廳

1-3. resort to +Ving 不得已之下的選擇
And from the examples, we can find that resort often combine the preposition to. So there’s a phrase called resort to. The meaning of resort in today’s sentence is more close to to do or use something especially because no other choices are possible.

1-4. resort (n.) 渡假勝地,飯店,會館
Resort is a noun as well. It refers to a place designed to provide recreation(娛樂), entertainment, and accommodation(住宿), especially to vacationers.

* People may resort to using leaves to wipe their butt when they're in the middle of nowhere.

2-1. food court (n.) 美食廣場;美食街
Food court refers to an area within a building(such as a shopping mall) set apart of concession stands.

2-2. court (n.) 球場,庭院,法庭,宮廷
* a basketball court(球場)

* a renaissance courtyard(庭院) in the castle
+ renaissance (n.) 文藝復興/ (adj.)文藝復興的
/ˈren.ə.sɑːns/
[rəˋnesns]

* The food court is more famous than the shopping mall itself.

3-2. atrocity (n.) (口語) 噁心糟糕的食物

3-3. atrocious [əˋtroʃəs] (adj.)【口】非常惡劣的,糟透的

Atrocity is a pretty interesting word for me. Actually I don’t know what it means in the beginning, but after doing some research, I found that sometimes when it’s in a really casual or informal occasion, you can use atrocity as a disgusting or terrible food or things. But usually, we don’t use the word like that, but we would use the adjective atrocious to describe the terrible or disgusting or bad things. For example, atrocious food ,or atrocious weather.

3-1. atrocity [əˋtrɑsətɪ] (n.) 殘暴的行為
If you want to use atrocity in a really formal way, it often refers to a shockingly bad or atrocious act, object, or situation. For example, the atrocity of war(戰爭的暴行)

* The famous YouTuber tries several food atrocities, and couldn't help vomiting at the end of the video.

Okay, I guess that’s all for today. Thank you guys for listening.

Freshness is definitely the first priority for me when I choose what to eat, especially seafood. Imagine lobsters or oysters that are not fresh at all. Oh, that’s a nightmare. And I’ve eaten something like fried tofu that was sitting for a long time, that’s really not delicious.

How about you? Have you eaten atrocious food that disappointed you? Leave a comment below if you have anything to share with me or the people here. Tell me your thoughts about this video and you can also share your experience of eating food from the food court. Please share with us. We would love to hear your answers. See you next week!
