In today's video, I have the second episode of Japan Food Diaries.

So this is a weekly series where I show you guys what I eat in a week when living in Tokyo.

So hopefully this series will help you guys plan your trip to Japan.

I'm going to show you guys the restaurants and cafes I go to, and

also give you guys my honest opinion on what I thought about the food.

So you can decide for yourself if you want to visit that restaurant or not when you come to Japan.

For the past few weeks, I've been really busy flying back and forth between Japan and Australia because I had some weddings.

But now that they are all done, I don't plan to leave Japan for a while.

So I have a lot of Japan travel content coming up for you guys.

I know a lot of you guys are going to visit Japan during Sakura season, so there's going to be a lot of videos coming up next month, so I'm very excited to share them with you guys.

If you're looking for a unique dining experience in Tokyo, Asakusa Onigiri is the place to go.

It's located away from the busy tourist area of Asakusa.

This cozy restaurant has gained popularity over the years and even earned a spot in the Michelin guide.

When I visited the restaurant, I arrived around 11 in the morning and only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated.

The restaurant also offers an English menu with pig pictures to help those who can't read Japanese.

As I waited for my order, I was offered hot tea.

The owner was very friendly and talkative.

Of course, if you are visiting this restaurant, you are going to be eating onigiri, which is a rice ball with some filling inside.

So this restaurant has a menu where you can either order two or three onigiris.

I went for two because they can be quite filling.

Each onigiri is made fresh to order right in front of you.

I got two onigiris and a bowl of tofu miso soup for a around 750 yen.

For my first onigiri, I chose shiitake and I was blown away.

The rice was so fluffy and just melted in my mouth.

While the shiitake had a delicious, subtle flavour that wasn't overpowering.

The second onigiri I tried was ume, which is a pickled plum filling.

It had a stronger flavour, but it was just perfectly balanced.

Each set also came with a bowl of light but flavourful tofu miso soup and also some pickles.

So overall, my experience at Asakusa Onigiri was amazing.

The onigiri was made fresh and served warm.

The staff was just so friendly and it had a very cozy atmosphere, which just made it a very unique dining experience, I thought.

If you're looking for an authentic Japanese food experience, this is the place to go.

I'll tell you now that these onigiris taste so much better than the ones that you can get at the convenience stores.

If you're looking for a cozy spot to enjoy some tasty grilled skewers and drinks, Torikyo in Shinjuku is a great option to consider.

Eric and I were just wandering around the area and Eric had this izakaya saved, so we decided to check it out.

So the first thing I noticed on the menu, they had a lot of cheese options, which was a pleasant surprise for me.

One downside to this restaurant is that it allows smoking and we just so happen to be seated next to a table of smokers.

So, yeah, that was a bit difficult to handle, but it was fine.

We ordered a set of skewers which were all cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning.

It came with different items such as eggs, tomatoes and chicken.

Now, the menu had plenty of other options, including classic Japanese izakua style food such as yakitori, tempura and much more.

The prices were very reasonable, so it was a great spot to go for a quick and tasty meal.

Of course, I ordered a bunch of cheese dishes which I really enjoyed.

You can never go wrong with cheese, so overall, it's a solid option for those looking for just a casual and affordable dining experience in Shinjuku.

Katsu Midori Sushi Shibuya I used to go to this restaurant all the time.

It's located in Shibuya in the Seibu Building on the eighth floor.

There was always a super long wait for this restaurant.

I have been so many times over the years.

So one night I went back with Eric and this was before the Borders opened.

One thing I realized when I went into the restaurant was that there wasn't much food on a sushi train itself.

It could be because it was a quiet night or it could be because they are trying to prevent Covid from spreading.

I wasn't too sure, but that was fine because I preferred ordering on the tablet anyway.

There is a variety of options available on the menu and it was just very extensive.

There was chawanmushi, which is a traditional Japanese egg pudding.

It's just amazing and yeah, just lots of flavor.

I'm also not a huge fan of seafood, so I often go for the meat.

I also ordered some fried chicken, which is something I always go for when I go to Kaiten Sushi.

The prices were very reasonable so I could eat to my heart's content without worrying about breaking the bank.

For dessert, I had some pudding and the sauce was served in the fish shaped soy sauce bottle.

I was a bit confused, but it turned out it was just syrup.

It was a delightful and refreshing way to end my meal.

Now I do have to mention that in terms of quality of the food, I was a little disappointed, to be honest, because I felt that it wasn't as good as it used to be.

I have been to this restaurant so many times in the past.

The last time I went was in December 2019 and I just remembered the meal was just amazing as always.

So, yeah, I was a little disappointed that it didn't meet my expectations this time around.

But I would still recommend this restaurant because, well, look, it's still really good quality sushi and you know, know for the price you pay, it's really good value for money.

Camelbak is a hidden gem located in a quiet neighborhood, perfect for those looking for a peaceful spot to relax.

The cafe is small and cozy with an outdoor seating area that allows you to enjoy the lovely weather while sipping on your drink or enjoying your snack.

So I visited Camelback with a friend without dogs and we were welcomed by the friendly staff.

The seating area is limited and the benches can only accommodate a few people at a time.

So it kind of makes it more of a takeaway spot or somewhere to stop by for a quick snack.

I ordered a chai latte and the egg sandwich.

The drinks were served really quickly, but the food took quite a while to arrive.

However, the friendly staff and the cozy atmosphere made up for the wait.

The chai latte was excellent, can never go wrong with that and it was just the perfect balance of spice and sweetness.

The egg omelette sandwich was small but packed with flavor.

The bread was toasted to perfection, so it was really crunchy and enjoyable to eat.
