Hi everybody, it is Jennifer Tarle from Tarle Speech.

Welcome to another week of the American English Consonant Sound Masterclass.

This week we are talking about the M sound.

This is the first of a three-week, let's call it a mini-series in the Masterclass, for the nasal sounds in English.

Nasal sounds are made with the air exiting your nose.

And today we have the M sound, next week we will have N, and the last week we will have the NG sound.

This is the phonetic transcription for the M sound, it is the lowercase letter M.

And we spell this sound with an M, just one M that we see in my, two M's that we see in mommy, and an MN that we would see in the word autumn.

So we do have a silent letter, the N in this case, and then we have the word limb that is spelled with MB again, another silent letter, the B.

So for the N sound, your lips are going to be closed and together, air is moving out of your nose, your tongue is just neutral in your mouth, and your voice box is on.

I am going to read all of these words, I want you to just listen, and then I am going to read each word you repeat after me, and then we will finish up the words by reading each word list, and then you can say the whole word list, okay, here we go.
