I think puberty is way more optimized for our evolutionary environment, but

in exactly the way that he suspects it's backwards.

Puberty makes young men far too androgenized and far too violent, with far too many side effects for the modern world.

and I did that for a while up until I was 16.

I'm 100% confident that I made the right decision in my life,

and I'm so glad that I look a little bit more mature.

So on the one hand, when you are a young man and a teenager, it can feel incredibly compelling that the social sphere around you is totalistic in its judgment of you and absolutely brutal,

and that everything you do and how you present matters.

Now, typically, when people grow out of their teenage years, they realize that the reality was completely the opposite.

And the teenagers are amazing, amazing futures and amazing, amazing individuals and humans.

But all of us are flawed in some different ways,

and teenagers are just not fully formed humans yet.

One is they make some really short, stupid trade-off choices.

I made tons of those when I was a teenager.

And the other problem is that some of those choices follow them into regular life later.

If you take exogenous testosterone at high doses, 300 is double the replacement dose.

There is a very high probability your growth plates close early, so you don't get to being as tall as you can be.

There is a very decent probability that your neurological development does not proceed on track,

and you end up being substantially more confrontational and violent through the rest of your life and somewhat less intelligent, especially likely in verbal fluency.

And so, man, that's an interesting trade-off to make for what?

Looking more mature is a good look, but not the good look.
