Hey, skaters, it's Stacey here from Next Edge tutorials.

Future continuous

In this lesson today, we're going to be looking at the elements an adult learn to skate.

So before we jump into this lesson, I want you to click on the link below in the description for your free PDF guide on how to start your journey and figure skating.

This is going to go over finding your local rink to equipment you might need, finding a coach, and

then putting together a training schedule.

It just takes out that guesswork for you because we have it all laid out.

today in our lesson we're only going to be looking at 1, 2 and 3.

We will do a whole nother video for 4, 5 and 6.

Now, our very first element that we have in adults one would be falling down and standing up.

Falling down safely, hands in front because we want to be able to see our hands here.

Push yourself up, other blade on the ice, arms out in front and stand up.

Now our second element that we have in adult one is marching forward.

Arms are in front and I'm literally going to march on the ice.

Now we are ready for our forward two foot glide across the ice.

Now we're going to take those same marching steps that we just used to add a bit of speed across the ice.

So we're going to go arms in front, marching and then I freeze my feet, slight bend and I glide across the ice.

Because I don't want lock legs when I go for that two foot glide, I want to be stable.

So a slight knee bend during that forward two foot glide.

Now the next element is forward swizzles.

We're going to start out with our heels together.

We're going to bend our knees and we're going to push our feet out.

So we're going to go bang in, out, toes back to your heels, bend, push into that eyes and rise.

Now our next element that we have is a forward swizzle, backward swizzle, which we call this the rocking horse.

So we go heels together, arms out in front.

We want to bend Our knees, because we're pushing on inside edges.

As soon as the toes touch, we push back in the ball of the foot and hold.

And I'd love to get that knee action of that bending and rising.

Now, the next element we have is a forward dip.

So when we do a forward dip, I want to make sure that my arms are in front of my body.

I'm bending my knees, driving my knees over my toes, and taking that upper body and pressing forward.

So we're going to get a little bit of speed.

Now, I'm going to stop those feet and press and stretch and hold.

before you even start moving it, you can just get comfortable in place with just a simple dip and stand up and dip and stand up.

Now, the last element that we have in adult one would be the snowplow stop.

Now, I want you to start off stationary bending and then slowly pushing your feet out, then walking back in.

And you can also use one foot bend, push away and back in.

And when I do this stop, I think about taking a very thin layer of ice off.

I don't want to move my feet as fast as possible out.

Now that we understand the snowplow stop, let's do it moving.

then I slowly push my feet out, then walk my feet back in.

Push away from my body, and then walk your feet back in.

And the first element is skating the width of the ice.

So we're going to go arms up and we're going to move across the ice.

Now, we're not quite ready for stroking yet, so we're just getting comfortable transferring that weight from one foot to the other, And

Now, the next element that we have is one foot glides right and left.

So before I even start with that, check your balance at the barrier.

I'm going to go one foot, then the other foot.

Now we're going to move it across the ice a bit more so arms are always in front.

We're going to do some little bit pushing.

Freeze my Body up, then the other leg up.

And again, when you pull up on that one leg, make sure you get all that weight over your left leg or over your right leg.

And then that free leg is nice and tight to your body.

So I'm going to get a little bit of speed.

I'm going to do a little bit of speed here, freeze the feet and we're going to go back and forth one way, then the other way, trying to keep those feet together and pressing those edges.

Now, the next element that we have is backward skating.

So I definitely want to make sure that my arms are always in front of my body when we skate backwards.

I'm going to bend my knees and then I'm going to go one foot, then the other foot pressing on Those inside edges.

1, 2, transfer, transfer, transfer, transfer.

Just slight, ever so slightly, one foot, then the other.

Getting comfortable with that weight change from one foot to the other.

And again making sure that my arms are in front because if they are too much this side or back behind my body, it will be an unnecessary fall.

So just make sure that those arms are in front of when moving backwards.

Now, the next element that we're going to be looking at is backwards swizzles.
