You might notice yourself skipping things you usually enjoy or feeling like simple tasks suddenly take way more effort.

That's tied to changes in dopamine, the neurotransmitter involved in motiv and reward.

When dopamine activity dips, activities that once felt rewarding can feel like chores.

When serotonin, the chemical linked to mood and well being, gets disrupted, your eating patterns can swing in either direction.

Both can be early signals that your brain chemistry is shifting.

Your gut may also start signaling trouble.

About 90% of your serotonin is actually made in your intestines.

And the gut and brain are constantly communicating through something called the gut brain axis.

Stress and early depression symptoms can disrupt gut bacteria, leading to bloating, nausea, or digestive issues.

That bad stomach week you can't explain might actually be your body waving a red flag.

So that's why it's important to see a medical professional.

The important thing to remember is that none of these signs alone mean you're depressed, but

a cluster of them sticking around is worth paying attention to.

Depression is treatable, and recognizing early signals can give you a better chance to act.

Getting sunlight, regulating sleep, talking to someone you trust, or reaching out to a professional can make a real difference, especially when you catch these shifts early.
