Welcome to the speaking section of the IELTS exam. My name is Adrian. I will be your examiner for this part of the test. I'm recording this for marking and clerical purposes. This is candidate number 95817736. We are currently conducting the exam in Ahmedabad and the time right now is 14 o'clock. The speaking has three parts. I will give you instructions for each. Before we start, may I see your identification? Yes, here is my passport that I used two weeks ago for registration and just now for check-in. Please have a look. What is your full name? My full name is Arya and my last name is Chaudhary. Please just call me by my given name Arya. Okay Arya, for part one I will ask you a couple of questions to get to know you better and some questions on a general topic. What do you do in your free time? In my leisure time I like to watch movies and reading books. Just last night I finished reading book The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Where do you live? I live in a large apartment with my parents and younger sister in the city of Ahmedabad which is the biggest city of Gujarat. Let's talk about the home. Do you live in an apartment or house? As I was saying previously, I live in an apartment. It is on the sixth floor of high-rise building in the suburbs of Ahmedabad. I have lived there since I was born. Which is your favorite room and why? I really love my bedroom because it is my own private place and I have decorated it to my liking. I can find comfort and solitude there. I really like to study in my bedroom and I have spent many hours preparing for this exam over past few months. How often do you clean your home?

I regularly tidy up my house whether I am taking out the trash, washing dishes or doing bit of dusting. I always do my part to keep my home clean. Just yesterday

I swept and vacuumed the floors. What is your least favorite chore and why? I don't like to clean the windows because I find it to be tiring and time-taking task. It is really tough to get all the dirt off and really make it clean. When do you feel your home is pleasant? I find my home to be comfortable when it is organized and filled with aroma of my home home cooking. This means that dinner is almost ready and the family is about to sit and enjoy the meal together.

Yesterday we had a good conversation while eating my mom's famous chicken biryani. That is the end of part one. We will now continue with part two. After analyzing each question in part one, the examiner can conclude that Arya's fluency is a band nine. She speaks without hesitation. Her grammatical range is also band nine. She uses present perfect, conditional as well as other forms of grammar. Her grammatical accuracy is about a band 8 to 8.5. Other than a couple of awkward mistakes like a missing preposition the, her grammar overall is very good. Her lexical resource is again a band nine. She uses a wide range of vocabulary including idiomatic language. And her pronunciation in part one is a band nine. The examiner does not have to concentrate or guess any of the words that Arya is using. Overall the coherence is a band nine so Arya for part one is an expert user of the English language. One of the toughest decisions I have had to make recently is deciding on my career path. I have a few different passions like reading, learning and computers and I had a tough time deciding whether I want to pursue teaching, literature or computers. I needed to make this decision two years ago in spring because the application for the higher studies started around May of 2020. After spending a considerable amount of time contemplating and planning my decision, I eventually settled up on pursuing computers. I talked extensively with my parents and my friends and most of them agreed that

I have made the right decision. The reason for this is that with a degree in computer science, there are many job opportunities which can provide me with good salary and a quality of life. I also realised that I can always combine my passion for teaching and computers and can even become an instructor of computer science in the future. Ultimately, I can pursue literature in my own time and when I produce quality writing, I can gain recognition while

I'm earning money as a data analyst. So as soon as I made my mind, I applied for college and gained acceptance. Now I'm finishing to a diploma in computer science and my next step is to continue to university for the higher studies in data science. I would not do anything differently if I were to go back in time because I'm happy with my decision and I think I have done my due diligence.

After part two, the examiner concludes that Aria's fluency is a band nine.

She cleverly uses the card and her notes to answer all of the questions without hesitation. Her grammatical range is also a band nine. She uses past perfect, present perfect, conditionals, adjective clauses, and other forms of grammar.

Accuracy for the grammar is also a band nine in this case. She does not make any unnatural mistakes in this long part. Her lexical resource is about a band eight.

She does repeat some words which she should be paraphrasing and using synonyms. Also, she uses an idiom incorrectly. She says made my mind instead of saying made up my mind.

You have to be careful to use expressions and idioms accurately.

Her pronunciation for part two is a band eight simply because of the word decision.

She keeps pronouncing that final S sound as a C and this does make it slightly awkward, although still clear. So her overall score for part two is still a band nine.

Now, let's continue. For this part, I will ask you some more questions related to the topic of part two. Let's talk about making decisions.

Generally, who supports young people in decision making?

Most commonly, parents, teachers, siblings, and friends are the ones who give guidance to teenagers and children about their impending decisions. This is because they care about them and have much more experience to share. This is the reason I asked my mom and my former teacher when I was deciding my career path. Where can young people get good advice for making decisions? Apart from the ones I mentioned already, youngsters can get good advice from the professional on the internet and in their community. These people can share their in-depth knowledge about the life situations. Fortunately, my school has some career counselors that are well-versed in career development, and I got some good advice from them. And I also learned some strategies to make up my mind.

How does decision making influence people's lives?

The process of making decisions has a critical impact on everybody's life.

Ultimately, a life of a person is really a series of decisions from early childhood. I mean choices of friends, hobbies, and interests. With good decisions, a person can lead a happy and healthy life. What are effective steps to making good decisions?

Hmm, that's an important question. I think patience and planning is the two most important things to make a right decision. I think that every decision should be considered from multiple perspectives, and whenever possible, a person should not rush and give their mind to think and rethink about the decision. That's exactly what I did a couple of years back when I was choosing my career path. I spent several weeks, if not a couple of months, in making up my mind.

What are negative ways to make decisions?

The opposite of what I just mentioned is negative. I mean rushing decisions and not thinking about the decision from multiple perspectives.

This will often lead a person down the wrong path. I have a friend who rushed into the university and he just dropped out because he was disinterested in his major.

Does the information available on the internet influence decisions?

Absolutely. I mean, internet has such a wealth of knowledge that it has become a treasure. I mean, a person can find a lot of up-to-date information on the internet and research is critical for making good decisions. Can you elaborate?

Yes, certainly. The reason I decided to pursue data science within the domain of computer is because I researched this niche on the internet and I found it to be both intriguing and lucrative.

That is the end of part three. That concludes the speaking section of the IELTS exam. You will have your mark in two days online and you will have your certificate with all of the sections in about ten days. Goodbye.

She uses a lot of paraphrasing and she uses several expressions and idioms accurately. Her pronunciation again is a band nine. She pronounces all of the words with clarity and they're easy to understand. Summing part one, two, and three responses, the examiner can now give Aria that perfect band nine score.
