And the only gratifying thing is, I saw the polls come in today.
THE ONLY GRATIFYING
Two years ago, I volunteered at an orphanage as a part of my undergraduate studies. I worked there from September to November at the time of five to six after my classes. It was really important for me to do this volunteer work for my business community course and they have 50 credits for it. So I started working there as an administrative assistant. I have also done their financing and budgeting as well. During my tenure there, I've prepared some Excel sheets for them so that they can track their expenses and they can plan their budgeting according to that. While I'm there, I've seen many unprivileged people there and it was a good feeling for me to help them and to see their smile is so gratifying for me. And I have also prepared some tax documents and everything for them so they could get some grants and funding from the government as well.
Which of these is the most rewarding and why? All volunteer works are actually rewarding in their own ways. From my personal example, I would say working for an orphanage is a really gratifying thing to do because you can see a lot of underprivileged kids there and working for them, making them happy is really satisfying. How does volunteering benefit society?

That's very gratifying.

It'll take some getting used to, but it's strangely gratifying.

retirement can be very gratifying, but surely you don't want to be a burden on them...

So our understanding of the material basis of evolution is phenomenally strong and I think that would be extremely gratifying to them.

Because it's simply too painful to hope. Because we've realised that we have too much talent for identifying people who then go on to torment us. Because we've had enough of other people's madness and too much experience of our own. Because we end up feeling that humans are probably best to be enjoyed from a distance. Because recovery from a love that promised a future can rob us of too many of our remaining years. Because we've understood finally how properly difficult we are to live with. Because no one is as perfect as the many attractive strangers we will never speak to. Because longing alone can be so much more gratifying than a scratchy day-to-day reality with someone else. Because if we never love, we cannot be hurt. Because there has to be a limit to how many times we can be expected to take off our clothes in front of a stranger. And last and not least, because we didn't have the sort of childhood to develop the right instincts for this game.
Because longing alone can be so much more gratifying than a scratchy day-to-day reality with someone else.
