Top 5 Mini Cooper S Mods! Do Now!!! R56

    07:33Top 5 Mini Cooper S Mods! Do Now!!! R56
    • how's it going guys welcome back to the channel hope you're all doing good today i'm going to make a video of my personal opinion the top five first modifications you need to do to your r56 mini cooper s so let's waste no time let's get right into it guys all right guys so mod number one is going to get inside the car so for the first modification i would suggest getting either a digital dash mechanical gauges or an ultra gauge just so you could read coolant temp boost for sure now the mini cooper doesn't come with any other kind of gauges other than just the rpm gauge and then obviously the big speedometer here so you can never read coolant temp or boost which are obviously big things to know now the r56 mini cooper s runs very hot so they run anywhere between 212 to 230 fahrenheit which is hot so the only notification you'll ever get is an engine light if your car is overheating or something else is wrong so you don't want to get to that point you always want to make sure you're one step ahead of the car you don't want before you get engine lights and then you're gonna run into bigger issues so like i said for me i can read coolant i can read the intake temp i can read air fuel ratio i can read boost now i can even come in here i can read diagnostics so obviously there's no engine codes right now oh there is a code look at that um that's because the car is freaking cold so i can come down here and i can even clear it here we go and i don't have the code anymore so literally for me i think a digital dash is hands down one of the best first modifications you can have just because if you want reliability of your mini you need to see the gauges and temps and all that stuff so number one first mod digital dash or some kind of way you can read coolant temp boost and maybe even oil temp you know but for sure number one mod all right guys so the next two modifications are going to get underneath the hood because these cars like to run so hot i would suggest get an intake now i'm running the k&n typhoon intake there are many other intake options you can get there's am there's cts there's alta so there's a bunch of different upgrades you can do i would suggest for sure getting an intake though i also took out the middle grill here so i can get airflow to the back of the turbo now am their intake has actually a thing where it channels the air all the way through and they use these existing holes and it's almost just like a hood scoop straight to the top of the intake which is really great for me i chose the k&n route because i plan on putting a k24 in here so i didn't need the biggest and baddest intake i was kind of going the mild route and just kind of a cheaper version because for me there's no point buying the best of the best and then i want to put a k in here and then i gotta do a whole new setup so i would say for sure get an intake you're gonna have great turbo noises you're gonna see instant throttle response and the car's just going to sound a whole lot better now to add with the intake i would say for sure upgrade your intercooler as well now i'm going to put these as just together as one mod because they benefit from each other obviously now if you don't know this is the oem intercooler so you can definitely see the difference of size there this is three times bigger than this so definitely upgrade this definitely upgrade the intake while driving your car then should be running around the same ambient temperature as outside so definitely upgrade these like i said the car runs super hot now since we're under here let's just throw this in here as well the oem coolant reservoirs they like to break right here at the nipple so i was suggesting aluminum coolant reservoir it will help out for sure and yeah now also as well let's talk about the exhaust so i know you can't see it because the turbo heat shield and all that jazz you're like yes but there's a three inch catalyst down pipe that runs two and a half inch all the way back to a vibrant ultra quiet resonator and then to my four inch dual tips so obviously because the cars are 1.6 liter turbo and because the stock exhaust is so restrictive on these cars you can imagine this little motor is screaming to friggin get those exhaust gases out and it literally can't cause bottlenecks so for sure upgrade your down pipe now it doesn't have to be a catalyst down pipe you can get a high flow cat instead of just being a straight catalyst down pipe obviously the cops don't like that but when you're trying to make power you gotta do what you gotta do so no it's a cardigan but thanks for noticing now having the catalyst down pipe or the high flow cat you're instantly going to notice throw response you're also going to see mild not mild you're going to see some small gains in power not much but you will notice it for sure all right so last two mods you knew this is coming we're going to talk about suspension and tires now this is going to be controversial because obviously everyone knows these cars come from factory with amazing handling there's no doubt about it that these are street leo go karts from factory alone but if you really want to enjoy some b roads or really getting those corners even faster and tighter than i would 100% suggest upgrading your suspension and your tires now i'm not saying go buy coilovers slam it to the tits like i've done you can simply just do lowering springs and you'll definitely see a difference right away from that now if you're looking to see what i run for a coilover setup i'll leave it right here you can go check that out i have a pretty in-depth video of what my coilovers are the spring rates how i built them so if you're looking to see what this car is running on go check that video also i would say upgrade tires now if your mini is still running run flats which they come with oem then i would 100% suggest getting yourself some brand new sticky tires because one grip is important and two run flats ride really crappy and they also add weight so they weigh about two to four pounds more per tire than a normal non-run flat tire so if you're trying to save a bit of and also get better grip 100% tires all right guys so those are my top mods i would suggest doing to any mini cooper whether it's the s or it's even the base model to be honest because those are all upgrades that that little 1.6 motor is going to thank you for and if you're not going to do any of the other mods that i suggest please for the sake of your car at least get some gauges because i'm telling you one day you'll thank me when you have those gauges in your car and you're and you start seeing your coolant temp really rising up and there's no notifications popping up on the mini the only notification you're going to get is when your engine has a serious problem and you're going to get an engine late so i hope that helped you guys hopefully you take some tips from me and we'll see you next one peace

    • There was also a challenge with having the engines on the legs in that if you happened to vector your arm engines anywhere near the intakes of the lower engine, we realized that your inducted air is going in, and that would then spike the exhaust temperature.
