“There’s an Indian proverb that goes, ‘Sometimes, the wrong train takes you to the right station.” - Crash Landing on You
Hello, lovely listeners of the Pronunciation Challenge! It’s your host, Hubert Tran presenting you with an episode about Korean dramas!
How have you been spending the extra time indoors? Netflix and other streaming services have exploded in popularity ever since the pandemic started. What else are we going to do stuck indoors, right? With all the extra time spent on watching shows, people were bound to explore the Korean drama section and I couldn’t have been happier! I was getting so sick of how Hollywood depicts (depict means to represent either through drawing, painting, or other art forms) Asian people on screen. That’s why I was so happy when Squid Game was an international hit! In my mind, I was thinking, “Finally! Asians are being depicted accurately!”. Did anyone notice how awkward it was when the foreign actors appeared on screen in Squid Game? That’s how I feel Asians are depicted in most Hollywood productions! Now the world has an idea that we’re more than that! I actually prefer Korean dramas to most North American productions these days. The storytelling is so much better in my opinion. Having said all that, let’s tackle the featured sentence!
Today’s featured sentence:
And that's when I discovered a revolutionary technology that's known to only the wealthiest of the wealthiest, called subtitles.
I’ll say that again.
And that's when I discovered a revolutionary technology that's known to only the wealthiest of the wealthiest, called subtitles.

So what are you guys watching lately? The last Korean drama I finished watching was Hometown Cha Cha Cha which I really enjoyed! It made me want to move to a small harbor town and live out a simple life. I’m currently watching a Korean show but it isn’t your typical drama. Ever heard of Single’s Inferno? I usually avoid reality shows because I always say they’re brainless entertainment but lately I’ve been so busy with work and wanted to relax so I gave it a shot. My opinion is that it’s actually great to see a reality dating show with Asians! I would even say it’s even better than American reality shows! Why? Well, there’s a tiny little detail which I very much appreciate on the show. In every episode, food is an important aspect and contestants are always cooking something!
Alright, I won’t keep you guys here any longer so you can get back to whatever Korean drama you’re watching! Make sure you get your recordings in before you do so though! Also, give me a follow on Instagram if you want to see what I’m up to @hughtran_. See you next time on the Pronunciation Challenge! Bye!
