“We ourselves feel what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” - Mother Teresa
Hello, VoiceTube listeners. Pronunciation Challenge host, Hubert Tran, at your service once again, with a video about our oceans and what they might look like in 1,000 years! For those that believe in science (which includes myself), you can already assume that the next 1,000 years is not going to look good for humankind. Heck, if we don’t start cutting down on our carbon emissions, Ho Chi Minh City and Mumbai will be completely under-water in 30 years! That’s not too far away and we could all potentially see that happen in our lifetimes! I have family in Ho Chi Minh City, and before the pandemic, I’d go back every year to visit. This is sounding scary. Curious about how else the oceans will change? Watch the video to find out! But don't forget to come back for the featured sentence. We can talk more about this important topic after that.
Today’s featured sentence:
“A weaker conveyor belt means hotter summers in Europe and fiercer storms in the US;, it means profound large- scale impacts on the planet in terms of weather patterns, upending agricultural practices, biodiversity, and economic stability across the vast areas of the world.”
I’ll say that again.
“A weaker conveyor belt means hotter summers in Europe and fiercer storms in the US;, it means profound large- scale impacts on the planet in terms of weather patterns, upending agricultural practices, biodiversity, and economic stability across the vast areas of the world."”
Ok, now time for the Pronunciation Tips.
For the first word, we have
conveyor
Three syllables.
“CON” actually sounds more like “CUN” like from the word, “CUNNING”, “VE” sounds like “HEY” but with a “V” instead and “OR” sounds like your typical “ER” ending sound. Conveyor.
Next word.
This one might be tough for some.
Fiercer
Two syllables.
Let’s break it down. “FIER” sounds like “DEER” but with an “F” in front instead. “FEER”. “CER” has the typical “ER” ending with a “S” sound in front. Fiercer.
And our last one would be,
Agricultural
Five syllables.
This one is tough for myself sometimes. “A” has the short “A” sound. “GRI” actually has a short “U” sound. “CUL” has the same sound as the word “CULL”, “C U L L”. “CUL”. “TUR” sounds more like “C H U R”. “CHUR”. “AL”, try saying “CUL” again but without the “C” sound in front this time. “UL”. OR you can blend the last syllables into something that sounds like “Troll” Agricultural.

Ever heard of the ripple effect? It’s the continuing and spreading results of an event or action. All you have to do is imagine water dripping into a bigger body of water. As the first droplet hit the calm surface of the water, tiny waves, also known as ripples, are formed, and this is what this analogy means. Let’s use today’s video topic to explain this phrase. If the temperature rises, our oceans expand (grow), from ice sheets melting and warmer water holding more space. If our oceans warm up, the conveyor belt will be affected. Warmer weather causes the conveyor belt to slow down and warm up, resulting in temperatures around the world rising. This is a ripple effect, where one small occurrence leads to numerous, sometimes devastating, consequences. You just may not see the effects further down the road is all. Knowing this about the oceans may make things seem dire— (and it is—) but that also means things can turn around for the better if we make little changes to our lifestyles. Perhaps we can cut down on our use of plastics because plastics are going to outnumber the amount of fish in the ocean very soon. That could be the first step in the ripple effect to saving the Earth. Let’s take better care of our planet, everyone. We only have one. Alright, that about does it for today’s episode. Next episode is going to be fun!. I’ll be presenting a video about how many children a humanbeing can have! Make sure you check that one out! That’s it for today’s Pronunciation Challenge! Catch you next time. See ya!
