  • That, actually dramatically by at least an order of magnitude, increases the permeability of your skin to these compounds.

  • I'm noticing now at Whole Foods.

  • Just because we're in the midst of this odd thing with Corona virus that nobody, at least in my whole foods, nobody's touching the grains that you could do yourself.

  • You know, they've got a wall of grains.

  • It's like nobody's even going over there anymore, which is proud, I guess.

  • Good at the moment.

  • But you know who does?

  • Yeah.

  • Ah, lot of people are now using his hand sanitizers, if you like, go on Amazon.

  • It's they're the markup has just shot up exponentially.

  • But something that I think few people appreciate is that when you use a hand sanitizer before you go shopping and then you touch the store register receipt These store register receipts are actually coated with bisphenol A, which is a pretty potent endocrine disrupter that hand sanitizer when you use it just before or even just after you touch these receipts.

  • That, actually dramatically by at least an order of magnitude, increases the permeability of your skin to these compounds.

  • So you want to be.

  • I don't know.

  • That's incredible.

  • They're literally selling hand sanitizer at the register.

  • You probably people are buying it right then and there.

  • You put it on, you grab the receipt.

  • No.

  • Yeah, it's not good.

  • That's actually a big topic that I cover in the new book is Endocrine Disruption and Environmental Toxins without, uh, Trying to Fear Monger.

  • But just to kind of alert people and to get people to think a little bit more critically about the industrial chemicals to which they are routinely exposed, right?

  • So before we go fully there, I wanted tell you what my basic guy is on a day like today where I told you right before, you have the last time we didn't do this time.

  • I think I was doing pretty good. 00:01:58.520 --> 00:02:0.660 But on a day like today I'm having I have a crazy day. 00:02:0.660 --> 00:02:2.050 I told you, I have to shoot. 00:02:2.360 --> 00:02:6.190 Then I have three other shows and we're doing a live stream like I'm gonna be just crazed all day long. 00:02:6.190 --> 00:02:10.630 So this morning, all I've had so far today it's about 10 a.m. Right now.

  • I had a cup of coffee grind the beans myself, do that.

  • I put a scoop of collagen protein in there and 1/2 teaspoon of lion's mane mushroom, which is for the brain, as they say, I've had that one cup and I've had, um, about a 3/4 of a cup of oatmeal with a little almond milk and a tiny bit of sugar free syrup.

  • And that's gonna get me toe lunch.

  • How am I doing in it?

  • Sounds pretty good way we're approaching was there, you know, it's just It's college in protein.

  • It's like maybe 18 grams of protein.

  • Collagen is not Talk to me about college.

  • This is L.

  • A.

  • Everybody's obsessive valid, and you can't go anywhere.

  • Well, I'm actually a fan of college.

  • College is one of the few, especially today, where we tend to eat for the Omnivore's in the audience. 00:02:54.690 --> 00:03:0.410 We tend to eat mostly muscle meat, which is concentrated in an amino acid called Mathias, and it's an essential amino acid. 00:03:0.410 --> 00:03:12.500 But there is thinking that by consuming too much meth iady and without adequate glassine, which is an amino acid that is found predominantly in collusion, this tissue and also in college and protein it's about 1/3 of 1/3 of collagen.

  • Protein is gl icing.

  • Um, that that might be to our detriment, especially for an Omnivore.

  • I think supplementing with college and protein is actually a pretty good idea.

  • Um, so all right, so coffee with a little collagen protein and some of the mushroom pattern doing okay in the morning.

  • Yeah, I'm a fan of lion's mane as well.

  • I use Ah, you know lines.

  • Main powder.

  • I think it's They've the studies on lion's mane.

  • It can potentially boost nerve growth factor.

  • And I've seen there was a clinical trial performed in Japan, where it's been used to, uh, they, they What they observed was, ah, boost and cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment.

  • So, um, you know, I'm a fan of these, uh, these, like, quote unquote medicinal mushrooms.

  • There's not a ton of research on them, but right.

  • And then oatmeal. 00:03:58.470 --> 00:04:0.110 Little sugar free syrup. 00:04:0.120 --> 00:04:0.910 I'm doing okay. 00:04:0.990 --> 00:04:1.210 Yeah. 00:04:1.220 --> 00:04:1.600 Oh, Meals. 00:04:1.600 --> 00:04:2.260 Okay. 00:04:2.330 --> 00:04:4.530 I mean, it's a little for me. 00:04:4.530 --> 00:04:5.200 It's a little high. 00:04:5.200 --> 00:04:9.710 Glycemic, tohave, first thing in the morning, but a meal, You know, it's a great source of soluble fiber. 00:04:9.710 --> 00:04:15.570 It satiating um, you've got these beta glue cans in it, which are immuno module A Torrey s.

  • Oh, yeah, I think oatmeal is steel cut is generally the best.

  • Is gonna have the lowest.

  • They're still cut.

  • You can confirm with you walk out of here.

  • Okay, So then I'll have two shows, and then I'm gonna have lunch.

  • I think they placed the order already.

  • We're doing like, sweet greens or tender greens.

  • Get like, uh, chipotle.

  • A chicken salad.

  • Yeah.

  • Romain.

  • There's probably little cheese in there.

  • I'm a big fan of the guy.

  • I eat what's called a big fatty salad every day.

  • I feel like I might have talked about this the last time I was here, but researchers at Rush University, actually one of the research one of the lead author in AA lot of the studies that I use that eye sight in my books and may in my talks.

  • Martha Claremore issue just passed away of esophageal cancer. 00:04:56.080 --> 00:05:4.870 She is the originator of the mind diet, and she also has done a lot of the epidemiology surrounding, um, you know, risk factors for cognitive decline and what she found. 00:05:4.870 --> 00:05:13.690 What her team found is that the consumption of a big salad every day about a couple of third of dark leafy greens is associated with brains that perform into 11 years younger.

  • So, yeah, I mean, there's probably a strong, healthy user bias there to people who eat more greens, more whole grains.

  • Things like that tend to be more health conscious, but, uh, you know, we know that dark, leafy greens are good for us.

  • They contained karate noise, which are really beneficial for eye health for brain health also can eat a lot of spinach really quick If you could put a whole handful of it.

  • Once it cooks down, it's like three bites and you're good.

  • Yeah, spinach.

  • Yeah, I'm a fan of dark, leafy greens.

  • I mean, we live in this weird, contentious time in nutrition where we've got these different factions, like breaking off.

  • We've got the Vegans.

  • We've got the carnivores.

  • And so I you know, I actually have a pretty balanced message.

  • I think I'm a strong advocate of consumption of animal foods. 00:05:58.290 --> 00:06:0.450 Grass would be fatty fish, things like that. 00:06:0.900 --> 00:06:2.770 Um, but then also yet dark. 00:06:2.770 --> 00:06:3.230 Leafy greens. 00:06:3.230 --> 00:06:4.310 Kale, spinach, arugula. 00:06:4.510 --> 00:06:19.250 So, speaking of the carnivores, you know, I was on tour with Jordan Peterson, and he became famous or infamous for partaking in the carnivore diet, which I think his daughter, Michaela, has no now called The Lion lined the lion diet, which is, quite literally, on Lee beef.

  • I mean, and I was on tour with this guy he ate, revised for breakfast.

  • We have He'd often have to revise for lunch and sometimes the whole time lock at night.

  • Or maybe two more rib eyes, a little salty.

  • Had some club soda water.

  • That's it.

  • People kept asking me This can't be true.

  • And I was like, if he is secretly eating cookies in his hotel room, I don't know about it, but from what I know, he was keeping to it.

  • And I did see throughout the year that we were together on the road that he actually his skin started looking better.

  • He said it fix some stuff related to, like, aural hygiene.

  • And then I thought his hair looked even, like a little thicker or something.

  • Um, have you studied this at all?

  • Do you sense a nim balance? 00:06:58.220 --> 00:07:1.010 There were not about him specifically, but just generally. 00:07:1.010 --> 00:07:4.920 Like when people do these What are seemingly sort of extreme versions. 00:07:4.940 --> 00:07:9.030 Yeah, Well, I think meat is very nutrient dense. 00:07:9.400 --> 00:07:26.340 You know, there's certain, I think, people in the Carnivore community you know, there's some debate about whether or not they're getting adequate amounts of vitamin C or even optimal amounts of vitamin C, which is found predominantly in you can get it if you can get small amounts of vitamin C and fresh liver, raw, fresh liver.

  • But you gotta eat raw, fresh liver to get it right.

  • Or carnivore.

  • By the way, I should mention that in the midst of all this he Hey, he had a physical for some insurance stuff and all those numbers, he told he came back.

  • Yeah, no, I think that meat is very healthy, like I'm not.

  • You know, I think that there's a lot of confusion about the value of meat in a healthful diet in an environmentally friendly diet or way of eating, I should say, But But yeah, no, I'm a big I'm a big advocate.

  • I think a lot of people, the people that I see, tend to do best on the corner for diet because it's a very extreme elimination. 00:07:58.000 --> 00:08:0.660 Diet is essentially what it is, and it's also a very safe. 00:08:0.670 --> 00:08:2.590 It's very hard to over consume meat. 00:08:2.590 --> 00:08:4.970 Because protein is the most satiating macro nutrient. 00:08:5.330 --> 00:08:7.240 It's gonna be more satiating than fat. 00:08:7.250 --> 00:08:10.310 It's gonna be more satiating than carbs, so it's very difficult to over eat meat.

  • So a lot of people what you'll see is they're gonna end up losing weight and when you lose weight, Ah, lot of bio markers that we associate with ill health tend to get fixed.

  • You know, high blood.

  • You know, if you have high blood pressure, it's gonna go down when you lose weight, inflammatory markers and things like that.

  • So just losing weight is gonna help you if you if you are overweight, but also people with with inflammatory conditions with auto immune conditions.

  • What I've observed in my conversations with, uh, people who are advocates of the Carnivore diet and also medical doctors who are advocates of the carnivore diet that you're removing problematic compounds, you know, uh, plant based compounds that can be allergenic for some people, that can induce a form of molecular mimicry which can aggravate an already confused immune system and cause an autoimmune response. 00:08:59.600 --> 00:09:6.120 And some people So that being said, do I think that people need to that you know, it's assistant. 00:09:6.130 --> 00:09:8.150 It's a very difficult diet to adhere to. 00:09:8.150 --> 00:09:13.870 And if I were suffering from some kind of autoimmune condition, I would probably give it a shot.

  • But then I would try to reintegrate.

  • I mean, elimination diets are not meant to be here too long term.

  • You're supposed to, like, cut everything out and then re integrate one by one.

  • Um, you know these different food groups so that you could see what the actual source of your problems is.

  • So yeah, I don't know.

  • I mean, I've never tried it personally, but yeah, can we talk about the anti inflammatory thing for a little bit?

  • So I don't remember last time I had you on which I think maybe it's like a year and 1/2 ago or so.

  • I don't even know if I had talked about it publicly yet.

  • But a couple years back about five years ago, I was getting my hair cut and my girl she told me that I was missing some chunks of hair, and then it started spreading basically all over my head.

  • At one point, I had lost literally, like 40% of my hair, and I was doing like crazy. 00:09:59.090 --> 00:10:1.250 I told you about this intervention privately. 00:10:1.250 --> 00:10:4.280 Maybe I don't even remember if it was private or on the show, but a bit. 00:10:4.280 --> 00:10:9.740 I was doing like, crazy spray on stuff to be on camera and all this other stuff, and I was doing steroids. 00:10:9.740 --> 00:10:13.950 And then I went on some experimental stuff, and I had a really horrible reaction to that.

  • The one thing that started turning it around for me was when I started doing more of a paleo diet, which I'm still doing, not fully.

  • I'm doing more of like a slow carb thing, but really just to do the anti inflammatory thing and I've seen a change.

  • I mean, I've lost weight.

  • I feel better, even little things.

  • Old basketball injuries that don't hurt as much.

  • You can just talk about the inflammatory situation.

  • Yeah, you don't want to be inflamed all the time.

  • Yeah.

  • I mean, I like in a chronic low grade inflammation to a forest fire occurring in the body.

  • And I mean, my focus.

  • The brain sits directly downwind of that fire.

  • Unfortunately, and inflammation is not a bad thing.

  • Like, you know, it's it's a life saving function of our immune systems.

  • And it's really designed by nature to spot clean cuts, wounds, scrapes, bruises on. 00:10:59.780 --> 00:11:4.540 You can feel it if you've ever sprained an ankle, the area gets, you know, it gets hot, it starts swelling. 00:11:4.540 --> 00:11:7.750 And, you know, um, well, engorged with blood. 00:11:8.540 --> 00:11:15.150 And the same thing happens when you you know, if you have an infection like in, you know, in your body, you become inflamed.

  • And the problem today, I think, is that our immune systems are responding not to what they would have, you know, for our ancestors.

  • But they're responding Maur to our diets in our lifestyles.
