  • The International Monetary Fund forecasts the global economy to grow by 3.4 percent in 2020, and the World Bank expects 2.7 percent growth.

  • The World Bank says this is due to a number of emerging market in developing economies, seeing a modest recovery as manufacturing sector improves, and global trade stabilizes.

  • Despite the rosy outlook, the global economy still faces uncertainties.

  • Economists point to the U.S. - China trade dispute as a top risk factor.

  • The world's two economic superpowers have reached a phase one trade deal that will be signed in Washington On January 15th.

  • But it isn't a done deal, and it may fall apart at any time as it has in past months.

  • Structural issues such as intellectual property protection, technology transfer, were allowing easier access to run a business in China, also all still need working out.

  • After signing a phase one trade deal, U.S. president Trump says he will visit Beijing to start a phase two trade deal.

  • A deal that if successful, could boost investment and improve financial conditions.

  • Another risk factor is a UK's exit from the European Union at the end of January.

  • After brexit, the UK and EU will have to negotiate a free trade agreement that needs to be signed before the end of this year.

  • Failure to reach an agreement could lead to another brace a cliff edge at the end of the year, impeding new investment and growth.
