  • In this American English pronunciation video,

  • we're going to go over

  • the pronunciation of the word ‘'sorry'’.

  • This week’s word of the week issorry’.

  • It’s a two syllable word with stress

  • on the first syllable. DA-da, sorry.

  • It begins with the S sound

  • where the teeth are together.

  • Sss. tongue tip is down here.

  • Then we have either the AH as in FATHER

  • or the AW as in LAW vowel.

  • I make mine more like the AW as in LAW vowel.

  • So my lips will be rounded more. So-, So-.

  • But the tongue tip stays down here.

  • Then you have to pull it back for the R.

  • Make sure you don’t pull it back early.

  • Drop your jaw with the tongue down,

  • so we get that vowel sound. Sor-.

  • Then you can see the tongue

  • pulls back for the R sound.

  • The jaw will also lift as the tongue

  • goes to the roof of the mouth

  • in the middle for the R.

  • Sor-, sorr-y.

  • And to finish we have the ending

  • unaccented E sound.

  • So the tongue tip is down here

  • and the front part is stretching up here

  • towards the roof of the mouth,

  • Ee, ee, ee, ee.

  • Since it’s unstressed it will be very fast,

  • ee. ee. Sorr-y, sorry.

  • So your tongue which is back here

  • for the R will come forward again

  • for the E vowel.

  • Sorry. I’m so sorry.
