  • Hi this is Tutor Nick and this is Adverb Phrase 10. The adverb phrase today

  • is 'in tow.\" Okay. Let's take a look at the note. In tow can have the literal meaning

  • like the actual meaning, of being in a situation where a car or vehicle is

  • being towed. Like we've all seen a tow truck actually towing somebody. So a

  • vehicle you know, or car behind it could be in tow. So that's kind of where the

  • idea comes from. Or the second meaning here.

  • Following someone while being under close guidance. So the person you're

  • following is probably more in charge. Or someone in charge and leading others in

  • tow. Okay. So let's take a look at the notes here. Or some examples. We have

  • three examples. All right. Example number one. When Jack went on vacation, he drove his

  • van with a motor home in tow. So this is the literal one. So he's driving a van

  • and maybe it's connected to the van. You know a motor home is behind it. So the

  • motor home is in tow. So this is the literal meaning of in tow. Or number two.

  • That kindergarten teacher traveled on a school outing you know , out of the school,

  • away from school to the zoo with her class in tow. Yeah. Sometimes you see this

  • you know, with with a teacher or maybe they might even have more than one adult

  • there, if they have a big class following. With all the children just following

  • behind them. So she went to the zoo with her class in tow. They were

  • following behind her. She was leading them. Okay good. And number three here.

  • That dog walker. Yeah. This is a real job. Sometimes like in a city , some people

  • don't even have time to walk their own dogs or they willing to pay somebody to

  • walk their own dogs, especially if they live in a city where you have to pick up the

  • poo-poo. Maybe you might want to hire a dog walker, it might be worth it in that

  • case. The dog walker went to the park with five dogs in tow. So five dogs

  • behind him on leashes so they were all on leashes and they

  • were in tow. Okay. Anyway I hope you got it. I hope it was clear.

  • Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
