  • My name is Anthony Maddaloni. I'm a professional photographer from Austin, Texas. I'm going

  • to show you how to open up your four by five speed graphic camera and look through the

  • ground glass. There is a button on the back of your camera that you press down and it

  • opens up. Very cool. A little window appears that you can actually see your image. It's

  • going to be backwards. It's going to be upside down. That's the coolest thing about a view

  • camera. You're kind of looking into a little world back there. You see, it opens up. Ok?

  • This works very well. It's called a shade. So, you can actually look into that camera

  • and focus. I also like using a hood. You might have seen in the old days photographers you

  • have like this hood over you and it actually serves a purpose. It makes that image brighter

  • and easier to focus. A lot of times I also use a loop back there to make sure my image

  • is in focus on my ground glass. So the ground glass, focusing hood, closed, open. Nice easy

  • way of looking through your camera to get the image for your composition. Ok. There's

  • not a lot of guessing. You're going to see exactly what you want and you're going to

  • line it up. Slow is the key word. Ok. You don't want to move fast. This isn't a fast

  • camera. You want to make sure that that image is in focus. Ok. And, that is how you use

  • the back and your ground glass.
