  • Erik: So, how did your McKenzie management consulting experience further shape your career

  • ambitions?

  • Ken: Oh, so I come from a lower-middle class background. I believe I mentioned my dad wanted

  • me to be a wallpaper hanger. I was exposed to very few jobs. As far as I knew you could

  • be a doctor, you could be an orthodontist, a dentist, you could be a wallpaper hanger,

  • a painter, you could own a retail store. I really didn’t understand what the possibilities

  • were. As an academic I sawthat opened up some possibilities, but as a management

  • consultant, “Wow!” You got to see - I was in the throws, in the bowels of some of

  • these companies. So, some of my clients were very large, multi-national, some of them no

  • longer exist for various reasons - economic crisis [said under a joking cough]. But, literally

  • seeing how these large business operated and what the roles were was very fascinating.

  • It let me start to map out what the possibilities were.
