  • - We were in Italy yesterday. We got in last night.

  • And I grew this mustache and I had this fedora--

  • I don't know, is this a fedora? - No, I don't think so.

  • I think it's-- isn't a fedora a bigger rim?

  • I don't know. I could be wrong.

  • - We'd have to ask Bruno Mars. I don't know.

  • [audience laughter]

  • Because he wears hats! Stupid joke.

  • So yeah, so I--no.

  • I grew this, and I-- you know--

  • I was in Italy, and I was--

  • What happens to me is I get overexcited

  • and I began to act Italian, like even though--

  • And so speaking English in an Italian accent,

  • is not the same thing as speaking Italian.

  • You know, so, someone would refill my water,

  • and I'd be "Grazie! Grazie!" you know.

  • And they'd be like, "Prego!" and I'd be "Grazie!"

  • I kept doing that, and I was annoying myself.

  • [audience laughter]

  • I ate a lot of pasta, and drank a lot of red wine.

  • - Nothing wrong with any of that.

  • - I got really sick of it, though.

  • - Oh, really? - Yeah, you never thought

  • you'd get sick of it, but I came home yesterday

  • and ordered a bunch of Indian food.

  • [audience laughter]

  • Which we-- which we just call "food,"

  • I guess, but-- [audience laughter]

  • - Yeah. - Yeah.

  • But oh, that's-- that's a funny picture.

  • There was a-- our server,

  • she said, "This is a speciality of the restaurant."

  • She's like, "Look at this bread. What does it look like?"

  • And I started giggling. [audience laughter]

  • And I was like, "I don't know, what does it look like to you?"

  • And she's like, "This is a bone,

  • of the dinosaur, mammoth bone."

  • - That's what it looks like to me too.

  • What does it look like to you, Kunal?

  • [audience laughter]

  • - Anyway-- [audience laughter]

  • [audience laughter]

  • I have another good breadstick story if you'd like to hear.

  • [audience laughter]

  • - It must be hard for you to go anywhere in the world,

  • because the show is so popular.

  • - Oh, thank you, yeah. - What do people say to you?

  • - Well, the show-- yeah, I'm so lucky.

  • The show's become so huge in Italy.

  • I got a lot of this in Italy:

  • [in Italian accent] "Big bang! Big bang! Big bang!"

  • But they'd be like looking and going--

  • They're trying to say "big bang,"

  • but excitedly and in a hurry,

  • and Italians are very friendly.

  • They like to grab you and touch you

  • and so I was molested a lot.

  • [audience laughter]

  • But because they have big hearts, you know.

  • So I got a lot of that,

  • like, "Big bang! Big bang! Big bang!"

  • So I just started doing that back to people.

  • They were like, "Big bang!" I'm like, "Big bang!"

  • I started doing that. [audience laughter]

  • Then I was like, "Grazie, prego."

  • [audience laughter]

  • - Let's talk about your book, "Yes, My Accent Is Real."

  • And what made you want to--

  • Some of the stories are hilarious.

  • I mean, it really is quite a story,

  • so tell people why you wanted to--

  • - I--you know, I was this kid from New Delhi,

  • who moved to America in '99, and ended up on this show,

  • and I wanted to write my journey

  • because I wanted to inspire young kids

  • to stop doing what their parentse are telling them to do

  • and live out their dreams.

  • Um, so-- [audience laughter]

  • But still, buy it for your children for Christmas.

  • And, um-- [audience laughter]

  • No, you know, I had all these crazy stories.

  • I wrote a lot about my love life in there,

  • just to--I don't know why, but I--

  • I just wanted to show all my ex-girlfriends

  • that "Look at me now," you know, like one of those things?

  • [laughter and applause]

  • Yeah, I--no. [applause]

  • No, no--there's no spite. There's no spite.

  • - One story--'cause we don't have time for all of them--

  • but one more story: this was-- you got this show,

  • which is like one of the biggest shows

  • that, you know, has been on television,

  • and you got it in-- that was your first audition.

  • It was, yeah, one of my first few,

  • and then I didn't know that the--

  • you know, I auditioned, like, on a Friday,

  • I got called back on a Monday,

  • and then I thought it was gonna--

  • You know, I was told I was going to get a job,

  • but then it took a longer time to get it,

  • but look at us now-- I mean, it's unbelievable.

  • - No, it's a great story, because it takes forever,

  • and just when you were about to give up, they--

  • you were about to say, "Don't--" you know,

  • "Don't give 'em any more time," you gave 'em more time.

  • Anyway, it's amazing, and it's in stores now.

  • It's called "Yes, My Accent Is Real,"

  • and today you're all going home with a copy.

  • [cheers and applause]

- We were in Italy yesterday. We got in last night.
