As we follow this latest development, Trump continues to lash out at NATO over members' unwillingness to get involved in the war in Iran.

Trump said on social media this morning that the alliance does nothing to help and he warned them to never forget this very important point in time.

I want to bring in CTV News U.S. political analyst Eric Hamnow.

So Trump once again blasting NATO, saying that they have done absolutely nothing to help the U.S.

What do you make of why he continues to strike out at NATO?

Well, the president is continuing, on one hand, to try to shape the narrative that the United States is winning this war and that Iran has been completely decimated, all the whiles excoriating many of its allies for refusing to help.

But why would they help when, as the president said, that Iran has basically been rendered helpless and that they are no longer a military or terroristic threat to the United States or the rest of the world?

But clearly, what we know is this simply is not true, as the United States is now beginning to move more troops in the region.

And it's looking more and more like what we're hearing is that the United States is preparing for what it calls one final blow to try to take several islands around the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to try to break Iran's chokehold on that area.

And so clearly, what we're saying right now, the president once again is desperate and trying to get the help that he needs.

We have to remember, Donald Trump has never had to be held accountable for anything in business or in politics.

And now, for the first time, he's out on his own, isolated from friends, allies.

Even yesterday, we know that there was a briefing for House members of the Armed Services Committee where even Republicans pushed back.

Nancy Mace, a Republican who has been an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump's who is running for governor in South Carolina, made clear that her red line, like many other Republicans now, are U.S.

If more troops are actually added or on the ground, they say that is when their support for this war will end, as well as that for Donald Trump.

Because Trump has always enjoyed this bedrock of support.

But as you point out, there are now cracks in that.

What is it about this war that is not sitting well with Republicans?

What we are hearing over and over is that they simply do not know what the strategy is, both short or long term.

And quite frankly, they don't know what the real issue is in terms of the threat that Iran wields over the United States.

Now we're seeing, just as what took place on Tuesday in special elections in Florida, where Democrats flipped two Republican seats, one was outspent literally 10 to 1.

And now many of these lawmakers are becoming increasingly more worried that they, too, are going to be victims to this war.

We're already seeing numbers that show that, as a result of the war, inflation in the United States will rise to 4 percent.

So you're seeing Americans who are stretched too thin as it is.

Politically, many of these Republicans see what this means for them.

And they are deeply concerned, given the fact that there is no strategy, no plan that they can discern from this administration, from the briefings that they are continually receiving.

And so right now, they are becoming increasingly frustrated with the president, who is single-handedly trying to shape the narrative as best he can.

And he's trying to tell the American people, "Settle down.

When it comes to the price of the pumps, it could be worse." He expected it to be worse, which is absolutely no consolation for people who are really struggling with what they have to pay when they tank up.

I do want to ask you, finally, Eric, do you have a better understanding as to the negotiations, the state of negotiations?

We know that there oftentimes there are track two there's track two diplomacy.

There's track three negotiations that take place.

We know that there have been overtures from Gulf nations to Iran about a ceasefire.

But it's clear that Iran has already made its intentions in terms of what it wants.

And it wants guarantees that this will never happen again.

It's clear that Donald Trump, while he is saying one thing, it just simply isn't happening.

And just to put a finer point on this, the fact that here in the United States, at least, people are actually believing the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps in terms of what's happening or not happening on negotiations over the president of the United States makes clear just how concerning or problematic this is for the president right now.

And all he has left is his MAGA base, which we know now is beginning to erode.
