Today I'm going to show you my morning routine,

and we're going to learn some really useful and common English.

So as you can see, I've just woken up, so wake up.

But now I'm going to get up, so physically getting out of the bed.

I try to have a lie in, which means to sleep later than you usually would.

So on a weekday, I usually wake up at about 7: 00,

but on a Sunday I try to lie in and wake up at about 8: 00, half past 8: 00.

So the first thing I'm going to do is get up and make my bed.

I love to make my bed first thing in the morning so that I feel like the day is properly beginning.

Let's open the blinds so we can open the blinds, and we can also draw the blinds.

Sometimes we talk about drawing curtains or drawing blinds, but it just means to close them.

There's a little bit of frost outside today.

We're getting really into the winter now.

Sorry for the terrible angle, but this is the only place I can put you.

So now I'm going to brush my teeth and wash my face and do all of that fun stuff.

So first I'm going to wash my face, just splash my face with water just to wake myself up a little bit more.

Then I have a couple of lotions and potions I like to put on my face.

It's kind of a light-hearted way of describing them.

So I'm going to put a couple of creams on my face and then brush my teeth.

We would say I am putting cream on my face.

I am applying cream to my face, but it sounds a little bit formal.

I would just say putting cream on my face.

I'm going to get changed into my gym wear.

I'm going to get changed into my gym wear because I need to go to the gym this morning.

So I'm going to wear some leggings and maybe a sports top.

Okay, now I look like I'm about to compete in the Winter Olympics, maybe do the bobsleigh or something.

But I need to put my hair up because I don't want my hair down for the gym, so I need to put my hair up.

It's inside out, so I need to... boop, because it's inside out.

Now I'm just going to make sure my gym bag is packed.

I need to make sure I have everything I need in my gym bag, so I'm going to pack my gym bag and then go downstairs.

I'm actually quite hungry, but I had such a huge takeaway last night.

So in the US, they might call it a takeout,

but I'm really hungry this morning, so I might have a banana before going to the gym.

I don't have any bananas, so I want to eat something before I go to the gym.

I don't know if I want to eat cheese first thing in the morning.

I'm going to have a protein shake before the gym as my pre-gym snack because I hate exercising hungry.

I can't feel like I'm enjoying it if I'm hungry, so I'm going to have that so I feel like I've got something in my stomach.

A lot of people say that they go to the gym to do sport.

We don't really call it sport in English, so sport is normally for, like, competitions, games.

Think football, rowing, rugby, things like that where there's some kind of game element and you are competing, usually against other people.

It's just you at the gym, or maybe you're running, just to build your own fitness.

So I am going to the gym to do exercise or to work out.

Okay, so I'm going to drink this, then head to the gym.

So I'm going to drink this, then head to the gym.

We can say to have a shower or take a shower.

Take a shower is a little bit more American, but I had a shower at the gym.

I feel a lot more fresh now, so now it's time for breakfast.

Again, make sure you say to have your breakfast.

I hear a lot of my students saying to take breakfast,

and I think that's common in lots of languages, but not in English.

We say to have breakfast, so we need to figure out what we're going to have.

So first things first, I'm going to fill up this water filter because where we live, the water is very hard.

There's a lot of minerals and stuff in the water, so every time we want to make a cup of tea, we have to fill up the water filter.

So I'm going to fill it up so I can make some coffee.

I'm going to let it filter the water, and then we'll make a coffee.

I think we're going to have for breakfast some bagels with some eggs and maybe a sausage in it, like a little breakfast bagel.

That's what I'm feeling like this morning.

That's quite a common phrase to say when you are hungry for something and you are craving it and you want it.

You say, "Oh, I feel like a sandwich," and my mum used to always say, "You don't look like a sandwich," because it sounds like I'm saying, "Oh, I feel like a sandwich." Anyway, let's put the sausages in the air fryer.

It's my favourite invention in the whole wide world.

It cooks stuff using air, and it's so much faster,
