Relative clauses (Restrictive vs. nonrestrictive)

Today we have nano banana, which is from Google and it is a tool to make illustrations.

So we have two words that make up this word.

Nano, which means very, very small, and banana, which is the yellow fruit.

We are going to learn three things today.

One, sounds, two syllable stress, and three, word stress.

When we have a compound noun, let's start with the sounds we have.

For that N, the air moves out of our nose.

for some of my students, it helps to think about ending the first syllable with an n and starting the second syllable with an n.

Now for banana, we have a lot of schwas to work on.

Ba and nuh have the schwa, which means they are super short, super quick.

We have another na in the middle, like in nano banana.

For a lot of my students, especially those of you who, who come from a language background where you do not have different lengths in your syllables.

So when we have a stressed syllable, it gets more weight.

What am I doing that makes that last one sound a little bit different?

So that whole word banana is going to be shorter and quicker.

Nano is going to be longer and louder and higher.
