I've noticed that a lot of people comment go on on my videos and I think that when they write go on they are trying to say thank you.

However, that's not really how we use go on.

So today we're quickly going to talk about two things.

First, we're going to talk about what it means when we tell someone to go on.

And then we're going to talk about some different ways that you can tell someone that you like what they have done or you appreciate their work.

So first, telling someone to go on when it's part of a longer sentence go on can be used many different ways.

But when we just say go on or please go on, it basically just means please continue or don't stop.

However, we usually only use this when someone has stopped or looks like they are about to stop.

Maybe someone is telling you a story and suddenly they stop talking.

Maybe they think that you aren't interested or that you aren't listening.

So again, we use this when someone has stopped doing something or looks like they are about to stop doing something.

We don't usually use this to say I like what you have done and I want you to do more.

So now let's look at some sentences that we do use to do that.

The first four that I'm going to give you are very simple and you've probably heard them before.

These are very good Good job, good work, and keep it up.

Very good, good job and good work all mean the same thing.

Keep it up is used in the same situations, but

what it really means is please continue doing this this way.

So when people comment go on on my videos, I think what they really want to say is keep it up.

And here are some other options that are a bit longer I really like the way that you and depending whether you want to use past simple or present perfect, you can follow this with the past tense form of the verb or have and the past participle of the verb.

For example, I really like the way that you explained this or I really like the way that you have done this.

You could also use you've done a great job or I'm very impressed with your work.

Then we have I couldn't have done it better myself and you've really outdone yourself.

I couldn't have done it better myself is a really nice thing to say.

But it only makes sense to say this if you have more experience than the other person.

This is because what it really means is you have done a much better job than I could do.

You wouldn't say this to a plumber who has done a really good job fixing your toilet because you are not a plumber and no one would expect you to be able to do a better job than the plumber.

However, if you are a very experienced plumber and you are inspecting the work of a less experienced plumber, that is a situation in which you could say this.

Or if your child does a very good job doing something that you have taught them how to do, that's another situation in which you could say this.

You're basically telling them the work that you have done is as good or better than the work that I could do.

Can be used with pretty much anybody in any situation.

It basically means what you have done is amazing.

It's better than anything I have ever seen you do before, and

it's better than anything I expected you to do.

So, yeah, don't use that one unless they have actually done something amazing.
