It's Monday, March 2nd, and this is what you need to know.

The Middle east shaken and on edge since the US Israeli strikes that took out Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The US and Israel say they've hit 2,000 targets in Iran overnight.

But there is no sign of an Iranian capitulation.

And Israel is now also striking Lebanon, saying they're targeting Hezbollah.

US Central Command has released new video showing the US Destroying what appear to be Iranian fighter jets, drones and ballistic missile launchers.

Israel claims roughly half of those launches have now been destroyed.

And President Trump says Iran's quote, entire military command is gone.

But the evidence in the region is that Iran is still capable of launching an almost relentless wave of drones and missiles.

Virtually every Gulf country has been hit.

Iran now looks to be striking at the economic lifeblood of this region, oil production.

Saudi Aramco has reportedly halted operations at its Ras Tanora refinery after an attempted drone strike.

Inside Iran, the death toll is rising with more than 550 people reportedly killed since Saturday.

Iran is blaming the deaths of 170 students and teachers at a girls school on Israel and the U.S.

the IDF denies the attack and CENTCOM says it is investigating the president.

Now back at the White House acknowledging the first deaths of U.S. service personnel.

A US Operation was tracking Iran's supreme Leader for months and eventually to his office compound in central Tehran, where he was killed along with his top military advisors.

We know that the US And Israel were planning this mission for months, but

these kind of operations are normally carried out under the COVID of darkness for obvious reasons.

learned that the Supreme Leader was was going to be meeting with top Iranian officials in Tehran on Saturday morning, well, the timing of the attack was moved up and the President gave the order to strike.

We've heard varying reasons for US and Israeli action, and

I think in some senses it's easier to make the strategic threat arguments in terms of Israel.

But the argument that Iran is a threat to America is far less clear.

And an operation that was initially about Iran's nuclear ballistic programs that would last days is now about regime change and the President saying it could last four to five weeks, far longer than we'd initially been told.

Martha Raddatz has more on the operation that killed Iran's supreme leader.

JAMES not only was Iran's supreme leader killed in the strikes, but

within minutes of the first launch, at least 40 military leaders were taken out, including the head of Iran's armed forces, the defense minister, and

Strikes that were carried out with astonishing speed and exquisite intelligence.

But those deaths prompted tens of thousands of tearful mourners to gather in Tehran's main square, pounding their chests, waving flags, and

throughout the country, many shouting death to America.

The Iranian foreign minister told ABC News that the deaths of the military leaders will make little difference to Iran's military capabilities.

But the loss of that many leaders would deeply rattle any military.

Iran's response is now engulfing this entire region, their drones and missiles finding targets not just in Israel, where nine people were killed at this Israeli shelter in a synagogue, but

across Gulf states where at least six people have now been killed.

There is now a global aviation shock as airspace across this region remains on lockdown.

Major commercial hubs Dubai and Abu Dhabi have sustained as many aerial attacks as Israel.

The State Department urging Americans abroad to stay vigilant.

But many remain stranded and unable to get home.

President Trump has made a number of public statements about what comes next in Iran, but

if there is a plan, it has not been made public.

He posted a six minute video on social media making his case for why he says the strikes were necessary.

An Iranian regime armed with long range missiles and nuclear weapons would be a dire threat to every American.

We cannot allow a nation that raises terrorist armies to possess such weapons.

But a new poll from Reuters and Ipsos which was taken after the strikes were launched, found that only 27% of Americans approve of the strikes, 43% disapprove, 30% had no opinion or said they didn't know.

And some members of Congress are now looking to rein in the administration's actions.

Well, James, Democrats and a handful of Republicans have been pushing Congress to have a vote this week on a war powers resolution that would essentially require President Trump to get congressional authorization before moving forward with an additional military strike in Iran.

I am told by sources that that vote is likely going to happen on on Thursday.

In the House, Democrats are insisting the president has now gotten the United States into a war of choice, not a war of necessity.

But it is Republicans that do have the majority here in Congress and the president has veto power.

And with concerns global supply chains will be affected, oil prices are now on the rise.

The price of a barrel was up more than 7% in early trading Monday morning.

Those higher prices could ultimately mean spending more when you fill up at the pump.

Experts say their biggest point of concern is energy shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, where about 20% of the world's oil and gas moves every day.
