According to a study published in JAMA Psychiatry, wounds heal faster in couples who are physically intimate with a little boost of oxytocin, the love hormone.

Groups of scientists from institutions including University of Andres in Chile and University of Zurich's Institute of Psychology administered minor blister wounds to 80 young heterosexual couples and divided them into four groups.

They were all given a nose spray of oxytocin to use and given a specific discussion topic to talk about with their partner, whether it was mutual appreciation or something generic.

Some of those groups received a placebo nose spray.

The group that received oxytocin and had higher levels of physical intimacy had 12 percentage points of improved wound healing over the week, especially those who engaged in daily physical intimacy.

Daily physical intimacy, oxytocin, or positive discussion alone showed no effect on wound healing.

It was the combination of the two that worked.
