American English resonance is different than resonance from different languages.

And resonance is the place where the vibration begins.

When we are speaking in English, we use a chest resonance to speak, and

that is going to sound fuller than some other languages.

If you want to use American English resonance, how do you do that?

We are going to talk about three ways to do that today so that you can sound clearer and more confident when you are speaking English.

Number one, we are going to start using good American English resonance by speaking from the chest.

Going to put my hand on my chest, and I'm going to say, ah.

I'm going to say M. My resonance is coming from here.

My resonance would be a little off because I said, you can hear that sounds fuller and deeper.

So that was the M from my chest as opposed to M from my head.

Keep your hand on your chest and make sure this is vibrating.

If you notice the vibration coming from somewhere else, just try to refocus and get it back into the chest.

Number two, you're going to keep the throat open.

We have vibration from the vocal cords, but my vocal tract is relaxed and open.

My vocal tract can become a little more constricted if I am a little stressed and my shoulders come up.

You can hear I sound a little bit different just by pulling my shoulders down.

My throat opens more and my resonance again, sounds fuller because my voice can travel freely and hit you with my vocal projection.

If this is difficult for you, you can take a big, deep breath, sigh as you exhale and sigh, then try to say a word.

It's going to sound a little bit fuller and a little bit warmer.

And last but certainly not least, I am going to project my voice forward from my mouth, not up.

That's sort of the visualization that I use, so I'm sending my voice forward.

So again, my three tips for better resonance.

Keep the vocal tract open by relaxing the throat, keeping the shoulders down, doing a big sigh or exhale to begin with, and
