But a growing number of states are making sure students don't write off the practice of cursive, considered a lost art by some.

This week, New Jersey's governor signing a new law requiring school districts to incorporate instructions on cursive handwriting into third through fifth grade.

Other states, including Georgia, Kentucky and California recently enacted similar requirements.

In a perhaps surprising comeback of cursive seen across half the country.

Do you think other states will follow suit?

Language arts experts like Leslie Zaroya say the move is backed by science.

With cursive writing shown to improve reading, memory, and fine motor skills in children.

It shows how students can make those connections between letters to form words and then be able to read that in phrasing in chunks.

Advocates say it also serves a practical purpose, like signing your name and reading important historical documents, an increasingly rare skill.

With advancing technology, they don't need to bring cursive back in school.

So the question is, are you up for the challenges?

Because we're kind of all the same age, but the kids now aren't learning it well.

It makes sense right as you're connecting each letter, helping understand each word.

So we have to learn it, just to read the old stuff.

Even if you don't use it, you gotta learn it so you can read historical documents.

Just to play devil's advocate, if you're a teacher and you've got, you know, a certain number of hours in the day and you have to, you know, science, math, you've got these other subjects that require a fair amount of time on task, what do you prioritize?

I'm thinking of all the cards on Christmas I've written my kids thoughtful meanings they never probably understood.
