The fanciest places I stayed at in Portugal on a two week trip.

Okay, actually, I'm freezing in the dead of winter in New York City where I live.

But last year, Tivoli, a hotel and resort brand founded in Portugal, invited Lonely Planet to see a few of their spots.

And I think we could all use some summer travel.

In Lisbon, I checked into Tivoli Avenida Libertad Los Boa, which opened in 1933 and is just classic, timeless luxury.

It's on one of the city's most iconic and expensive streets and is walking distance from the historic Alfama neighborhood.

But be warned, the hills here are no joke.

A walking tour is basically a cardio workout.

And don't even think about wearing heels.

I recommend taking a tuk tuk because you can see more than you can on foot.

After a train ride up north to Porto and a road trip back down to Lisbon, with a couple of stops along the way, I flew to the Algarve, which is the southern coast of Portugal.

Its cliffs, mostly made of limestone, are spectacular and I could see them right from my room at Tivoli.

Carvoe Algar Seco, an area filled with unique rock formations and turquoise water, is just a 10 minute walk from the resort.

Benejil Cave, arguably the most popular tourist attraction in the Algarve, is also a short drive from here, but

it gets so crowded I went first thing in the morning and kayaked from a nearby beach.

Being so close to the ocean, the Algarve cuisine is super seafood heavy.

Tivoli chefs took us to a local market and showed us how to find the freshest catch.

The three things to understand if it's fresh or not.

They taught us how to make kataplana, a traditional seafood stew that gets its name from the copper pan it's cooked in.

I also had to try fish tacos here because I love fish tacos and Tivoli Marina Villamora delivered.

This resort is almost an hour east of Carvoeiro and is less cliff, more club.

It overlooks lots of sparkly yachts and has a puro beach club on site.

The music was bumping seemingly at all hours, but

it didn't keep me up, which is the only thing I really care about.

From there, I took a car to Albuquerra which has its own colorful marina, to go diving.

I'm a beginner, so I try to go whenever I can to improve my skills.

I the highlight was definitely seeing an octopus in the wild, and

Closer to Faro, the Algarve's biggest city, and

also where I was flying out of was Tivoli Albor, which is an all inclusive which I feel like are rare to come by in Europe.

So I've since recommended it to a couple of my friends who have kids.

There's a big playground and a dedicated kids area and you don't really need to leave if you don't want to, but

I recommend venturing out to see Three Brothers beach in Albor.

I went at low tide just after sunrise and had the whole place to myself.

And let me tell you, this type of piece is priceless.
