As we join you, Australia's east coast is counting down the final hours of 2025, and

Our Nine News team is with the tens of thousands that have already made their way to the best vantage points.

Let's go first to Bailey, Kenzie, who's at the Sydney Opera House.

Bailey, We've seen crowds building there around the harbour all day.

A party atmosphere probably is the best way to describe it.

Have a look at these scenes down here at the forecourt.

You can see thousands of people are turning around, turning out for these New Year's Eve celebrations.

And as you take a look to my left, just here on the steps of the Opera House, a similar situation there.

So many people turning out to catch a slice of the action.

We are told around 1.5 million people are expected to turn out for these New Year's celebrations here at Sydney's cbd.

And among them is Emma and her boys, Ned and Waltz.

We got here early to get this good spot so we can see the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

We were here in the year 2000, so we brought these guys back for their first time this year.

And what time did you get down here today?

The vibes are high here, Kate, certainly.

But it's not just down here on the forecourt where people got in early.

So you've nearly spent a full 24 hours here.

And no slave and case security has certainly been at a high.

We have heard from New South Wales Police that this is expected to be their largest ever police presence for a New year's celebration.

Turning out here is the Premier and our Lord Mayor on that a little earlier today.

Given that we're still reeling from the recent tragic events in Bondi New Year's Eve provides an opportunity to gather as a community, to pause and reflect and to look with hope for a safer and more peaceful 2026.

There is a massive logistical exercise with tens, thousands of people, public servants that are responsible for keeping you safe.

And Kate, just finally, in honour of the 15 innocent lives lost in the deadly Bondi terror attack.

And menorah will be displayed on the pylon of the Sydney Harbour bridge at around 11pm at the same time, there will be a minute silence.

So we are just hours away from those fireworks getting underway.

And Kate hours away from sending off 2025 with a bang.

Let's head now to Melbourne where we find Amber Johnson on the Yarra River.

Amber, that will be one of the best vantage points in the city later tonight.

It doesn't get much better than this, does it?

We spent most of the exploring around the river trying to find the best spots for a party tonight.

And then we realized we haven't actually been on the Yarra.

So we managed to pull a few strings with our friends at gopot and we've wrangled this beautiful vessel here.

And honestly, it does not get much better than this.

I think this is probably one of the best ways to explore Melbourne.

And now I think it might be one of the best ways to view the New Year's Eve Skyworks show.

So if you just take a look, imagine all the buildings behind me here will be completely lit up tonight.

So it's just going to be absolutely, absolutely fantastic.

And also this venue here, we scoped this out a little bit earlier today.

It's called Arboria Floater Floating Bar.

The team have been absolutely run off their feet preparing for a sold out event.

1500 people will be packed into the bar there tonight.

But if you missed out on tickets, there's no need to worry.

There's actually four party zones right across Melbourne.

They are free and family free friendly, so anyone can go to those tonight.

But honestly, it's just been so lovely walking along the river tonight.

We've been having a chat to people asking them what their plans are and also what their New Year's resolutions are.

Start doing exercise and not eating too much bacon.

And you know what, Kate, if you ask Me my New Year's resolution.

So I think I might get my skipper's licence.
