My name is Mikayla, and this is my Airbnb in Azabu Juban in Tokyo.

So, apartments in Tokyo have a reputation for being pretty small because it's such a compact, dense area.

But they're still bigger than hotel rooms, which is why I prefer renting an Airbnb over a hotel when I visit Tokyo.

Straight ahead is the bath and shower room.

And this is a typical shower-bath setup for a one-room apartment.

There's a nice, deep bathtub because Japanese people love their baths.

And the shower is kind of just like a little hose.

Some people like to wash their bodies in this area here before they have a bath.

You can bring it over here and wash your body before you have a bath.

It's not really the type of bathroom you'd have if you were living with a family.

And right away, we've got this little kitchen.

It's not, you know, a kitchen for someone who's doing a lot of cooking.

But as you can see, with only a microwave and one gas stove burner, you're probably not going to be cooking too much in an apartment like this.

And diagonally from the bathroom, we have the toilet closet, which is really just, yeah, a little closet with a toilet.

Right here, we also have a washing machine.

So, if you're staying long-term, you can do your laundry.

So, the reason I did a two-bedroom room is because I'm actually here in Azabu Juban to take cooking classes, Japanese cooking classes.

I thought it would be really fun to kind of learn how to make Japanese food because I suck at it.

But I actually invited Sharla to come to one of the classes, and she wanted to stay overnight, so I needed a place with two beds.

It's like this baby blue, and it looks so much better than my house.

Like, I feel like, man, I really should spend more money on decorating my own home.

Another thing I really like about this Airbnb is how bright the room is.

These here are solar-powered bird lights, so at night, they light up.

Another good thing about Airbnbs in Japan is that a lot of them are equipped with free internet, portable Wi-Fi routers.

So, if you're coming from overseas and you don't have data for your phone or a foreign SIM card, you can use this pocket router.

You can take it while you're out on the town, and you've got internet wherever you go.

A lot of Japanese people have apprehensions about using Airbnb because they're like, doesn't that mean that the owner is there with you?

Like, isn't it dangerous to stay in someone else's apartment?

But a lot of Airbnb cases, the apartments are totally empty.

Yeah, maybe they have a key, but usually, usually it's safe.

Make sure that the place you're staying in has good reviews before you decide to rent it out.

That's the best way to ensure that you'll have a positive experience.

But for me, it's always positive, and it's nice.

I stayed here for about three days, three nights, four days.

I felt like it was my own house, and it was so comfy, and I looked forward to coming home all the time.

It's like living in your own little apartment.

Like, you get to experience Tokyo lifestyle this way.
