Now you've probably heard of all the really famous shopping streets but they are overcrowded, really busy.

If you want to eat at any restaurant you're going to have to wait in line for hours and do you really want to do that when you're on holiday?

Japan has always been a dream destination for travelers but lately that dream has been getting a little crowded.

In 2024 the country set a new record with nearly 37 million international visitors, a 47% increase over the previous year.

The same spots everyone has on their bucket list, they're more packed than ever.

From the tomboy's glowing signs to Osaka's castles garden, it's becoming harder to find a quiet moment.

Osaka has so much to offer and in today's video we're going to go to the local areas, going to do some local sightseeing, go to local restaurants and we're going to go to an area that's not overly crowded.

Welcome to Senbayashi, a 100 year old shopping street locals have loved for generations.

In Japan many shops and attractions don't open until later in the day so mornings can feel a little slow if you're an early riser.

It's a project which aims to promote morning tourism across various different shopping streets in Osaka.

There's also an interactive map which you can use to find out where you can enjoy It's a great way to find hidden gems that you wouldn't usually find on tourist websites.

We used this map to navigate around Senbayashi shopping street.

This 700 meter arcade is home to over 200 shops, many of them open in the morning.

Perfect for browsing fresh markets, grabbing breakfast from a family-run bakery or enjoying coffee in a cozy cafe.

Here you'll swap the tourist crowds for friendly smiles, everyday prices and a taste of real Osaka life.

Just a few minutes walk from Senbayashi's shopping street is Omiya shrine, a peaceful spot with over 800 years of history.

Legend says that the famous warrior Yoshitsune dreamed of a god protecting him here and soon after he won an important battle.

The shrine was later linked to Osaka castle and even protected by the great samurai leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Today it's a quiet escape where you can just stroll under tall trees, make a wish and step back in time.

We are now at Senbayashi shopping street.

Now this place is famous because it's one of Japan's first shopping centers and it opened up in 1957.

It was famous for selling kimono fabric, clothing and lots of restaurants and street food.

So we're going to be walking down today exploring this whole area.

Of course because we are in Osaka we need to have takoyaki.

We asked what the recommendation was and decided to go with shoyu mayo which is soy sauce and mayonnaise.

Takoyaki is Osaka's ultimate street food.

Crispy on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside with a piece of octopus in the middle.

It was invented here in the 1930s and ever since it's become one of Japan's most popular street foods.

It costs 420 yen for eight pieces of takoyaki which is only about $2.85.

The toppings that we got was really light which goes really well with the thick batter.

This definitely is one of the best takoyaki I've had.

The flavor was so rich even with the light sauce.

The takoyaki was very fluffy and so delicious.

For a quick snack you have to go to Kurokaya.

This place had a line when we arrived so we knew it was going to be good.

The shop specializes in kuroke and fried foods.

All the food will be fried upon order so you will receive it fresh.

Many locals come here often, not only for the low prices but because of how insanely good this place is.

It is so soft inside, crispy on the outside, filled with creamy potatoes.

There was a slight sweetness to this and even though it's deep fried it tasted so light I just wanted to eat another one.

I also got the pork kushikatsu for 120 yen which is 80 cents.

So much flavor and the meat is really tender.

Then finally the kushi bacon for 120 yen which is 80 cents.

Once again packed full of flavor and it was just so delicious.

After eating here I can see why so people waiting in line.

It was so worth it for the price and the quality.

I definitely want to come back and try out all of the other stuff.

This place was actually so busy when we got there.

We waited a bit until the crowd moved out so it's definitely very popular amongst the locals.

They sell all kinds of bread here for cheap prices.

There are breads that only cost 99 yen which is about 65 cents.

Although not all the breads are 99 yen, the prices are very affordable.

I love bread so I decided to pick up quite a few varieties of different ones.

You can find melon pun to cream sandwiches to pizza bread.

Everything is baked in-house and is fresh every day.

Now this is the first time I've seen this but Sembayashi shopping street actually has rooms where you can sit down and enjoy food you bought.

It's quite convenient if you order food at places that don't have seating.

We took the bread to one of these rest stops to eat.

Oh, there's cream on one side and custard on the other.

It's time to check out some places for dessert.

This place is called Suohiro and they specialize in sweet potato.

They are famous for the tiramisu which was 370 yen, around $2.50.

The sponge was filled with sticky sweet potato paste bursting in flavor.

The mascarpone and cocoa powder balances everything really well.

I really like how the sweet potato is just so light.

Usually it's thick but this one is just lovely especially in the summertime.

I also got their sweet potato dorayaki ice cream since it was a really hot day.

Usually it's a red bean paste inside but this time we've got sweet potato ice cream.

It's a perfect summer snack and I couldn't get over how cheap everything was for the quality.

The last stop for today is Kato Meicha Honpo.

They have so many different types of teas that you can choose from so it's a great souvenir to bring back home.

There's also a cafe that serves some unique things like matcha beer.
