Microsoft has now become the second company to surpass a valuation of $4 trillion.

This news comes following the tech giant's better-than-expected second-quarter earnings, and just weeks after AI chipmaker NVIDIA broke the record for the first time.

The company's stock rose up to 5% on Thursday morning, and it reported an 18% revenue growth rate in its earnings call.

The tech giant's boost in valuation can be attributed to its pivot to AI and cloud computing last year.

Microsoft's Azure Cloud Computing service brought in $75 billion in revenue, which is a more than 30% increase from last year.

The New York Times reported that the company invested more than $88 billion in data centers as well.

Its other products, like the Microsoft 365 suite, LinkedIn, and Windows devices, also reported revenue increases in the last quarter.

NVIDIA, which was the first company to surpass the $4 trillion valuation mark, was also able to do so because it capitalized on the rising demand for AI chips.

Over the last 10 years, which is around when the chipmaker started focusing more on the development of advanced chips, NVIDIA's shares have risen over 35,000%.

Both Microsoft and NVIDIA's market cap growth is ahead of Apple.

Apple has the third-largest valuation, at $3.1 billion.
