The imperative

So wonderful to be with you guys here tonight.

Folks, in just a few moments, you know, we got coming up here in just a little bit.

We got a couple of amazing guests tonight.

Dave Franco will be out here putting the movie together.

And before that, the one, the only, the marvelous Sandra Oh will be out here.

It's great to be with all of you tonight.

And I just want to take a minute to, again, thank everybody for the outpouring of support these last few days.

As I said before, I've gotten more texts and emails than I can possibly count.

And if I haven't responded to yours yet, it's only because I don't like you.

And the thing is, I don't generally read articles about myself for the last couple of decades.

But I've been told by my wife, Evie, there's been tons of articles in social media posts out there too.

Evidently, for a brief moment, the Google search Stephen Colbert, why fired, overtook Stephen Colbert, out there, what wrong with his ears?

One thing I got from the things that I did see is that a lot of people out there are bummed about the show ending, which is understandable.

But some people see the show going away as a sign of something truly dire.

And while I am a big fan of me, I don't necessarily agree with that statement.

Because we here at The Late Show never saw our job as changing anything other than how you felt at the end of the day.

Or rather, changing how you felt the next morning when you watched on your phone.

Which is probably the camera on your phone.

Point is, I don't want this show to be associated with making you sad or anxious.

But since I'm the guy who's going away next year, I'm thinking maybe I'm not the guy to cheer you up.

So instead of me talking, here with the song to cheer you up are two musical greats, world renowned for bringing people laughter and joy.
