And today I am so excited because I am going to be speaking to a student of mine.

Her name is Sunga, and she is here to share with you her story of how she went from burnt out, anxious, stressed out in her old job to then being able to successfully switch industries all together into the tech industry in her new dream job.

Thank you so much, Sunga, for being here with me today.

Like I said, like I really want to have you share your story with everyone about how you went from, you know, stressed out, anxious.

Sunga, can you tell us what was going on, you know, with your career before you started looking for a job?

So basically, I was in the beauty industry for quite some time, like specifically in that position.

And at that time, I really wanted to switch my career into tech because I feel like there were more opportunities there.

And you know, I wasn't having as much fun at work.

So basically, I felt like I lost my spark.

I knew it was time to change, but trying to quit my job during a pandemic seemed like a risky move.

So I was just kind of, I was feeling really stuck.

So you're feeling stuck, you're feeling anxious.

And that makes a lot of sense, too, because I think a lot of people during the midst of the pandemic were feeling the same way where maybe they wanted to quit, but you couldn't quit because you didn't.

So how are you approaching your job search?

What were you doing to try to get interviews and what types of jobs were you looking for?

The types of jobs that I was looking for was obviously something where I could use my transferable skills.

But you know, I would look at job descriptions at a tech company, and already just looking at the job description, I felt overwhelmed because I was like, well, geez, you know,

I've been in the beauty industry for quite some time.

I don't have, you know, that experience specifically.

So I would feel kind of discouraged at that point.

And then, so the main thing, obviously, the first thing to do is to revamp my resume.

And I can't tell you how many times I tried revamping my resume on my own.

And honestly, I thought I was doing great until I didn't get any results.

And obviously, as time went by, I started to doubt myself, eventually, my confidence level dropped.

And I even paid for those resume formatting platforms, where you choose like a fancy format, and then you would insert your work experience.

But the problem with this was that you are restricting yourself to a certain format.

So basically, if the format said, you know, put down volunteer work activities from high school, you just kind of, you know, naturally, you would want to put it down.

And that was a silly thing to do, because at this point, I already had like seven years of work experience, and it didn't add any value.

I knew there was a better, like more organized way to showcase my work.

And yeah, and then at that point, of course, I started feeling even more stuck, you know, and even more hopeless.

Oh, that's, you know, I think so many people can relate to what you're saying, because it's like you just do what you can.

You just try to update your resume the best way that you can.

And then, yes, people fall into the trap of thinking that it's your format, which, you know, as you know, it's not necessarily about the format as much as it's about what's written, what's the content in your resume.

And so I'm glad that you're sharing this, because I think a lot of people can relate to that, just having redone their resume on their own and not getting any interviews.

So you were trying to switch from the beauty industry to the tech industry.

That's another big, you know, sort of like hurdle to try to jump all on your own, too.

So what made you start realizing that you needed more help?

Like, what were you doing to try to improve that chance of yours of getting from beauty to the tech industry with your resume and whatnot?

I think there was two things that I did, mainly.

The first thing was to look for positions where I can, you know, transfer my skills.

And this is the thing that this is advice that you give even on your YouTube videos.

You have to like find the in-between job position, you know, and those are the types of jobs that I was aiming for.

And then the second one is to try to find keywords.

And this is also something that you share on your YouTube and your course so you can speak their language.

You know, you kind of need to like, for example, speaking in their keywords in the resume is kind of like speaking English to English as opposed to like English to

Korean, you know, it makes that much of a difference.

So those are the two big things that I did.

OK, so when it comes to your resume, what a lot of people do is they try to update their resume on their own and then they don't get results.

And then, of course, they go to Google, right?

And what did you find in terms of information on Google?

You know, there's a lot of things that Google says you could do to revamp your resume. And one thing was like try using active verbs, you know, power verbs.

And then I also went on to like Naver, which is like the Google of Korea and, you know, try to search on how to revamp my Korean resume.

And a lot of times they would just kind of like beat around the bush and they didn't really give me like the core strategy to actually revamp and make my resume look better. It would always end up with like, you know, call someone or contact someone to get, you know, to get the juice, the secret sauce or whatever.

And yeah, every information was fragmented.

Got it. So then what made you get into, you know, wanting to sign up for top notch resume? Like what was the path to that?

You know, when starting my job search, I was very uncertain, even like even if I should quit. So I would look up my thought process is very like reflected on my

So the first thing I would be like, when to quit your job or like how to search for a job during a pandemic and how to stay positive during a job search or like how to revamp my resume. And for every question, like Linda Rayner kept popping up, you know, she was always there.

So I kept like started watching your video and they were already so empowering and they're really helpful. And at the end of every video, you would mention your TNR and

TNI course. And I was like, well, she's already so helpful in these YouTube videos.

Like, I wonder what she can like, what information she can give me during her courses. So I was like, I'll give it a try.

And that is how I enrolled into TNR initially.

So I enrolled into TNR first and then I decided to enroll into TNI.

Amazing. Yes, I definitely want to hear about that.

So let's talk about TNR, which stands for top notch resume.

I mean, just from taking the course, what did you notice in terms of results and changes of your resume?

So the best thing about TNR is that it gives you the courage and confidence to actually apply for your dream job.

So in my case, I want I wanted to switch from beauty to tech.

Right. And just reading a job description at a tech company was super overwhelming.

And I was like, well, you know, I don't have like I said before, I don't have that kind of experience. Like, you know, and then sometimes I like I'm so underqualified, I don't even want to try, you know, but the TNR course, it really helps you like showcase your transferable skills.

So what initially was like, I don't have that experience suddenly turns into like, yeah, yeah, I did that. You know, I can totally do that at the same, you know, I can totally highlight that in this resume.

So that kind of like lifts your spirit and gives you hope.
