You have a dog or cat with red itchy skin.

This is a new topical DIY natural anti-itch skin remedy.

Are you looking to learn more of a natural pet health and wellness?

We're going to get a little bit personal here.

The last few months, I've had some pretty itchy skin in certain parts.

It's winter out, there is no moisture in the air, the air is so, so dry, your skin just dries out, evaporates all the moisture.

This happens for me, also happens for TULA.

When the skin dries out, it loses its protective barrier.

And guess what? You're much more likely to have an allergic flare up.

And the very same thing is happening in our dogs and cats.

Yes, it's a topical steroid, it took away the inflammation, the itching pretty quick, but as I know and as you likely know, these corticosteroids have a whole host of secondary side effects.

So I went to my lab, a.k.a my kitchen/ slash office.

Put together what I think are kind of the best combination of anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, antibacterial skin oils.

Made them all in one concoction of a cream, and they've worked so well for me.

Tula was licking in-between the pads of her front leg.

I don't know if it is inflamed, maybe a primary underlying allergy.

Regardless, I put on the topical skin cream and in virtually no time the redness goes away, she stopped licking.

Coconut oil, it's been extensively studied and shown to be specifically beneficial for atopic dermatitis.

That's environmental allergy and that's what most often causes the itching.

It's going to be antibacterial, it's going to be anti-inflammatory, and it can also lock in moisture, decreasing inflammation in the skin.

Next, we have castor oil from the castor bean.

The active ingredient in castor oil is ricinoleic acid, it is a proven topical anti-inflammatory.

Sunflower oil is considered the most important natural ceramide.

And what is a ceramide? That's a specific type of fatty acid, which is strengthening the skin barrier.

Allergies start because they penetrate into your pet's skin barrier, your own skin barrier.

You have a strong barrier, you're preventing those allergens from getting in through the skin, actually blocking that itch scratch cycle.

In part, it's doing that because it's rich in a fatty acid called linoleic acid.

It has a high concentration of the most important antioxidant skin vitamin- vitamin E.

It's also anti-inflammatory, soothing that irritated skin, also seems to help speed wound healing.

Shea butter is high in that important antioxidant skin vitamin- it is high in vitamin E.

The shea butter is anti-inflammatory, it's decreasing skin inflammation, and then it's also improving the skin barrier function.

Also important in terms of it improves skin hydration.

It's keeping that moisture in the skin, your skin doesn't dry out.

Last but not least, we have something from honeybees.

The beeswax is beneficial for the skin in a few different ways.

Most importantly, it creates a semi occlusive barrier in the skin in terms of preventing all this additional water loss.

It acts as a humectant locking in hydration.

It can act as emollient softening and soothing the skin, and it also appears to have antiseptic properties.

First, you need to start it with a pot, we're going to heat up all of our ingredients, turn it into a liquid, then we're going to cool it into our healing cream.

Number one, we have the coconut oil, we're going to be using three tablespoons.

Next, we have our anti-inflammatory castor oil, two tablespoons of our castor oil.

Number five, our beeswax, two tablespoons of the pre chipped beeswax.

You want it to have the ingredients just fully melt, but you don't want it to boil.

As soon as they're all melted, then remove it from the stove.

Next, it's going to go into our glass mason jars.

After it's fully cooled and set, this is how it should look.
