  • Six foreign guests have been found dead inside their rooms in a hotel in Bangkok.

  • The bodies were discovered at around 7.30 in the evening.

  • The victims were of Vietnamese descent, three males and three females.

  • Thai Prime Minister Seta Thawasin has ordered an investigation.

  • Grand Hyatt, Erawan, Bangkok is located in the Ratchaprasong area, a popular shopping and entertainment district.

  • Now for the latest from Bangkok, we go live now to Sakthesai Sombat.

  • Thai Prime Minister Seta and police have just held a press conference.

  • What did they say?

  • Now, there are a lot of question marks surrounding this story that has been initially reported as a shooting, but it turns out not to be the case.

  • As you mentioned, it has been headed by the Prime Minister Seta Thawasin and police officials.

  • What we do know for certain is that in the late afternoon, in the early evening on Tuesday, six foreign guests of Vietnamese descent have been found dead in the hotel room.

  • They were supposed to have checked out, but then they didn't, went down to the lobby and they were found in their deceased state by housekeeping.

  • Police have also said that they have not been heard after they have been served room service, so basically meal service.

  • We have, CNA has seen pictures from the crime scene of those food that have been basically left untouched and unpacked as well.

  • Police have also released pictures to the media showing drinking cups and drinking glasses.

  • This is where police have found some suspected substances in there, but the cause of death of these six people, we do not know.

  • Now, this of course has caused a lot of excitement, a lot of concern as well, since Thailand especially is so reliant, its economy is so reliant on tourism, especially this industry has been battered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • And the government of Prime Minister Seta Thawasin gives great importance to the tourism industry.

  • This is also why Seta himself has showed up at the scene saying and insisting that this has not been an incident, let alone a shooting incident, that this has been an isolated incident confined to the hotel rooms.

  • He is very concerned, of course, about the image that such incidents can create to not only the public here in Thailand, but also to the wider world and subsequently to the tourists themselves.

  • But there are still many, many question marks.

  • For example, there was also a seventh guest that was on the original booking, but that has been unaccounted for.

  • We don't know what the substance was that apparently was found in those drinking cups, in those drinking glasses.

  • And these six guests, what their relations are together, we do know that they are somehow affiliated and associated with each other.

  • But why they were all here and why they have all died at the same time here in Bangkok, we do not know.

  • So it seems to be that we are at the very beginning of a mystery unfolding here in Bangkok.

  • Hopefully, we'll get the answers to those questions.

  • Sakthi, thank you so much for that update.

  • Sakthithas Hayasombat there talking to us live from Bangkok.
