  • Something that I have been wondering about for years now is how can a manga of this caliber be underrated.

  • For the years I have been reading this manga, I encounter very few people that have read it and even less to discuss it with.

  • Even on the internet, no one seems to be talking about it.

  • On YouTube, rarely do I see a video about it.

  • Only few other places like Reddit can any Kingdom related activities and discussions be seen.

  • The funny part is that Kingdom is the second highest selling manga in 2020 and has always been in the top 5 for years now.

  • Kingdom is my second favorite manga of all time and I absolutely love it.

  • That is why I thought of making this video, to at least maybe attract few people to read it with me and shed some light on it with my small platform.

  • Hey there and welcome to my channel.

  • If you're new here don't forget to subscribe and turn on the notifications bell on to not miss on future anime and manga videos just like this one.

  • Surprisingly, with its lack of attention on media, Kingdom is one of the best selling manga of all time and is in the top 10 manga on Myanimelist.

  • Kingdom started publishing in 2006 on Weekly Young Jump.

  • It's a historical Seinen manga that takes place in the warring states period of China, where seven different kingdoms were constantly at war for supremacy over the country.

  • We follow the story of a young man called Shin, who starts out as a servant who dreams to work from the bottom up to become a great general and ends up meeting Ei Sei, the new king of the Qin dynasty.

  • Their goal becomes the unification of the entirety of China with the rest of the story revolving around the hard and long journey of achieving that.

  • The premise itself speaks volumes of the potential of the story, but it does surpass any expectation once you get into it.

  • As the story continues and starts building its amazing world with its great political and tactical combat side, coupled with some of the best art you'll see in any manga that releases on a weekly basis.

  • Kingdom is not entirely nonfiction and contains a lot of real events of ancient China.

  • But that is exactly what makes Kingdom stand out.

  • The author was able to craft a series that's not historically accurate but atmospherically accurate.

  • The world captures the feeling of Chinese civilization perfectly.

  • His research and care to make the manga stand out while not being completely accurate is fascinating.

  • There is always a spoiler from real historical events in places like Reddit and manga sites, and theories based on that.

  • That sometimes are correct and sometimes not.

  • I found it so special that Iactually started to become more interested in Chinese history and read books and watched movies about it, mostly because of how kingdom beautifully presented it.

  • The world of kingdom as I previously mentioned is really unique because it captures the period perfectly.

  • The world is huge and detailed, trivial things like wind and type of land are imperative in success.

  • Marching, movements and halts must be adjusted, studying the direction of the wind the shape of the roads and their state are all important in winning a war.

  • This level of details that both serves the characterization of characters, shows off amazing tactical intelligence in battles.

  • And build up small aspects of world building is some of the best ways I've seen in any manga to enhance the atmosphere and capture reality.

  • One of the best qualities of the manga is it's massive, ever-growing cast of characters.

  • Nearly every individual that could be important wether that was members from the Hi Shin unit,

  • certain key figures from the loyal palace, or enemy commanders, generals and soldiers are fully fleshed out characters.

  • It's mind-blowing how huge the cast of characters become as the story continues.

  • Each character being entirely unique with their personalities and sets of values.

  • The constant evolution and development of the characters in Kingdom is really something special.

  • That is why when any of these characters die, it feels very unique and good.

  • Sometimes even when enemies die, it feels special.

  • kingdom hits hard all the time and it's that level of emotional connection what sets it apart from other manga that often fail to make the reader care about its cast.

  • There is also a big philosophical aspect in this story:

  • the philosophy of war and peace, separation and hate between people, personal growth and understanding to life's value.

  • The philosophy of Sun Tzu from the art of war is strongly present and more.

  • It's this unique mix of amazingly crafted atmosphere that communicates the reality of war and shows how war in this era was,

  • and how it affected people with a huge cast of amazing characters (that are) mostly well-written.

  • In an epic saga filled with political aspects, tactical battles and philosophy about war, heroism and peace is what makes Kingdom manga what it is.

  • A nonstop thriller lasting over 600 chapters with stunning art style that never fails to engage the reader.

  • I highly recommend you try and read it.

  • The first chapter is enough to tell you how interesting and good this story actually is.

  • Kingdom lacks marketing in the west and other places because of the availability of the manga translated.

  • And the lack of a proper anime adaptation to give it the fame it deserves.

  • In the last decade kingdom had 2 seasons of an anime by studio Pierrot, but that was awful; nobody should watch it.

  • Last year, we got a third season which was surprisingly good that adapted one of the best arcs in the manga.

  • It only lasted 4 episodes due to the pandemic and now it's finally coming back in April.

  • There's a movie adaptation that's surprisingly amazing and it was one of the reasons that Kingdom got more popular and made the sales increase in Japan.

  • I really hope to see a reboot of the first two seasons or maybe the continuation of the events in the live action movies version.

  • Thank you for reaching this far in the video.

  • I hope I convinced you to give it a try, and if you already did then, that's great.

  • Tell me down below who your favorite character is and see you in the next video.

Something that I have been wondering about for years now is how can a manga of this caliber be underrated.
