  • Hey everyone.

  • I don't know how it is in your country, but here in Brazil people are always

  • looking for ways to magically learn English and become fluent

  • in six months or less.

  • But we know there is no magical solution to learning a new language.

  • But don't feel sad.

  • There are, however, some things people

  • can do to speed up their learning.

  • And in this video I'll give you five tips to learn English faster.

  • Let's go.

  • Do you know why you're learning English?

  • My first tip to you is have a goal to learn English.

  • When we have a goal to do something, it becomes easier to decide

  • strategies and paths to follow to achieve this goal.

  • This can be simple, like, to understand songs,

  • movies and series in English, or even bolder ones like go study

  • or live abroad or even get a better job.

  • For my second tip, we're going to compare

  • learning English to becoming fit.

  • If I want to become fit, but I only go to the gym once a week,

  • eat whatever I want, don't drink enough water or get enough sleep,

  • in how much time will I become fit?

  • Probably a longer time, if ever.

  • But if I go to the gym two or three times a week, have a balanced diet,

  • drink lots of water and get enough sleep,

  • I definitely become fit a lot quicker.

  • So, our brain is very similar to that.

  • The more you stimulate it in English, the faster you'll learn.

  • And not everyone can spend time abroad, especially now

  • with the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

  • But including English in your routine can do that trick and help

  • develop language skills much faster.

  • And one of the ways you can include English in

  • your routine is to follow social media profiles about English and in English.

  • We already spend a lot of time on social networks.

  • So, why not take advantage of this and follow profiles that teach English?

  • On these profiles you can learn expressions,

  • vocabulary, grammar and much more.

  • And be sure to follow the Learn English with Cambridge Instagram profile.

  • It's full of tips for you to learn English.

  • And you can also follow profiles in English where you

  • can see native English speakers post original

  • content to practice and learn real-life English.

  • I suggest following profiles of topics you are interested in.

  • The more interested you are, the more you will learn.

  • For my fourth tip, thinking about improving your listening skills.

  • Choose a topic you like and watch videos or listen to podcasts about it.

  • If you like to cook, you can watch cooking

  • videos in English.

  • You can even watch movies or series in English to practice your listening.

  • And if you need a little extra help, you can put the subtitles in English,

  • or even in your own language, depending on your level of English.

  • Something that's great about this is that today,

  • with our globalised world, you can hear a number of different

  • accents in English.

  • And the more you train your ears to hear English,

  • the more you will understand it.

  • Here on the Learn English with Cambridge YouTube channel,

  • you can hear English spoken in many different accents and learn a lot of

  • English at the same time.

  • Oh, by the way, click on the Subscribe button right

  • now to see all of these wonderful accents and learn lots of English.

  • My final tip for you, focusing more on speaking,

  • is to practice thinking in English.

  • One of the things my students struggle the more is having to

  • translate everything they're going to say from their native

  • language to English.

  • And this can cause the person to be a slow speaker or to use the words in

  • the wrong order or not make much sense.

  • When you practice thinking in English, you exercise your brain to look

  • for words and structures without referring to your own native language.

  • Start slow, like ten minutes a day, think about

  • what you are doing in English, and increase that time every week.

  • This is also a great way to expand your vocabulary as you

  • will be exposed to different situations during your week

  • that might not come up during an English class.

  • Having an English-speaking partner also is a great way

  • to practice thinking and speaking in English.

  • So, guys, these were my five tips to learn English quicker.

  • Do you have any other tips you use to learn faster?

  • I'd love to read them in the comments section.

  • Which tip do you already use to learn English?

  • If you enjoyed this video, please give it a big like and be

  • sure to share it with someone you know wants to learn English quickly.

  • I'll see you soon. Bye.
