  • Hello everybody welcome back to Tokyo Creative play.

  • I'm host Emma and today I'm here with Jordan and Cody and a bunch of frozen food.

  • Do you guys like frozen food, frozen food, frozen food, eating frozen food in like four or five years in England in England but coming to Japan like there's just so much variety and I don't have any background with frozen food in Japan.

  • So for me it was like why risk buying something frozen where I can just make it myself cooking.

  • Yeah, this is all very interesting to me.

  • I used to feel the same way I was a little bit daunted by all the frozen food.

  • I was like I'll just make it fresh.

  • And recently I've gotten into buying frozen meals and frozen food and honestly they do a really good job here but I haven't tried most of these.

  • Usually I just use like fried rice so like I did a pasta dish once that wasn't it?

  • But it's very hit or miss.

  • So I'm very interested to try a bunch of these because is it really as good as the freshly made version of it?

  • Let's find out what I'm curious about.

  • And also growing up in Japan is frozen food like super popular.

  • Yeah, it's super popular because my culture is always a bento culture.

  • Right?

  • Right so of course the mummy is trying to make it fresh as much as, but they are putting like a popular like a small meals inside and then nobody like oh that's new, we talk about it.

  • I want to try that kind of thing.

  • So it's always part of my diet culture, food culture in Japan.

  • So we're going to rate them and see which ones are the best as well.

  • So I guess we'll have to find out.

  • Let's begin.

  • Okay let's start with the only giddy and the rice stuff big big.

  • So usually they have a crispy exterior with the sauce and everything so it feels pretty crispy.

  • Mm Nice flavor.

  • It's not bad at all.

  • We'll hear that.

  • Mm Make your hips 321689.

  • I think it's got good flavor.

  • The texture is really good.

  • Of course the real stuff has that crispy exterior and it still has a different kind of texture on the outside with the stickiness but it's not quite that crisp level that I usually have.

  • That's why I gave it the six.

  • The flavors of their very soy so it's very good.

  • Like the size the texture feels like rice but it could be it could be a little more rice.

  • E you know what I'm saying?

  • Like it's a little bit but because I've been there a little bit but for me the main thing was it doesn't have that nice crisp you get which is why I had to keep it with the six but it's still good.

  • It's not bad but I mean honestly it's good if you want a crispiness after your microwave you use the fly pan and heat it up a bit.

  • So the the south face of the rice is going to be a bit dry.

  • That gives like a nice, real, like a dry hot pan.

  • That's brilliant.

  • Same as the with flavor, which is that you guys know the fish?

  • Small fish.

  • There's three kinds.

  • So let's eat a bit.

  • Mm That's really good.

  • Okay, and what's going, I'm ready.

  • 321 did the same seven this time.

  • The same thing as the same comments.

  • But the flavor of this one was really good.

  • Like this best.

  • More than absolutely delicious.

  • And also so cheap.

  • I feel like all these foods are going to be super cheap.

  • And the d at the combine e how much is it for?

  • 150 100.

  • 200 yeah, 201.

  • Next one is on rice.

  • The ketchup didn't come frozen.

  • I was wondering that come with the ketchup Already artistically put the sketch one.

  • That's why it's so badly done.

  • I apologize.

  • The thing that was cool about this, that you put the entire bag, like the whole bag.

  • You don't tear it in the microwave and it pumps off almost a massive circle without it.

  • It's really cool.

  • Like you don't need to use the plate, right?

  • No, it comes in a plastic thing.

  • You can put the whole thing in the microwave comes out as it is still the whole thing over.

  • So this, this is just under 300 yards under $3 for like a nice meal.

  • Which is so much cheaper.

  • I know it's not a restaurant style but like way cheaper than you can make it for yourself.

  • I like that.

  • But also I love ketchup.

  • I don't know how I feel about it.

  • You need to consider the price.

  • Yeah, you're right.

  • Yeah.

  • 300 yen cannot buy any solid portion like this even from the convenience.

  • Okay saying that.

  • Yeah.

  • Okay.

  • Clear school.

  • I'm good.

  • 321778.

  • Yeah.

  • A good regular tasting almond ice and texture was fine.

  • It just tasted very normal but it wasn't like, wow.

  • Like it wasn't well but it also wasn't like, it was just like a good normal tasting.

  • I thought it was pretty bland.

  • So I was like ready to be like, oh, this is like nothing tasting or too salty flavors are balanced like a really good ketchup taste coming through.

  • It takes like pretty decent made of rice.

  • I think when you buy the frozen food from japanese supermarket, you always surprise how cheap they are and how convenient they are.

  • So it's of course you cannot eat this for every day.

  • But when you are tired or when you cannot cook something quickly, but you're hungry if you have this in your fridge, you feel like, yes, I'm survived pizza.

  • This is just a nice margarita and 7 11 and actually our camera lady Alex has spoken highly of this pizza.

  • So my hopes are a little high to see how it goes.

  • You know, the history of pizza.

  • So apparently was made by as you're eating, it was made by like the rest was made by like a japanese chef who has a restaurant based in the middle or something like that.

  • And he was like, he wants everyone to try the authentic italian pizzas.

  • We made this so everyone can have good pizza in the comfort of our own homes.

  • This is actually, to be honest, the second time we've heated it up so I feel like the first time hitting it up, the cheese would have been better.

  • But still the crust is actually surprisingly good.

  • I've had frozen pizza before.

  • But wait, let me try the actual crust sauce is really good.

  • Like stupidly good.

  • It's actually really good.

  • I'm surprised.

  • And also just so you guys know if you order from pizza hut domino's and stuff, it's like three pizza.

  • So expensive.

  • But this is 500 yen.

  • Approximately.

  • So like one coin pizza, but this one is not microwave.

  • It's the oven toaster thing.

  • So it's really nice crisp.

  • You can taste the door.

  • Yeah, it tastes like, it's literally just like a pizza.

  • Someone is made fresh flash frozen.

  • You just keep your oven.

  • That's really good.

  • Okay.

  • 3219.

  • It was good.

  • Honestly, it was a very balanced, very well made pizza.

  • I'm very impressed.

  • I've had worse pizzas from restaurants.

  • So I think it's cheap.

  • I think the sauce is really nice.

  • I think the cheese could have been better, but that's because we, that's a skill issue.

  • We messed up a little bit.

  • What about what you get for eight?

  • I just thought 500.

  • You can eat something better Because it's quite small for the pizza.

  • Yeah, I'm small so I eat less but still, I don't think I can be cool with that.

  • So you get nine point like I'm basing it on like the flavor.

  • So for me, 500 yen.

  • That size.

  • It's pretty decent for me.

  • I'll take it home and eat it.

  • Maybe I'd eat as like drinking.

  • That would be really good for you.

  • I think you can get from everywhere like 7 11.

  • Let's go.

  • Everybody, we got some beer and with this beer, the beer wasn't frozen it.

  • We have some autonomy which is snacks to have with beer.

  • We have some chicken wings and we have some kata.

  • Be short rib 7 11.

  • And they were actually a little expensive frozen food now that my standards are the way that they are, these were almost 300 yen.

  • That's not a chicken.

  • Oh yeah, good.

  • The flavor is pretty dang good.

  • I need a bowl of rice.

  • Oh, that's really good.

  • Yeah.

  • Wait, this is frozen.

  • Shut up.

  • That's so good.

  • Yes.

  • How do they get that?

  • That's pretty good.

  • I always forget how good it is.

  • Having to mummy with, its like kind of like fatty and fried and salty and saucy and then it's just like a white about the chicken wings and it's so damn good.

  • What is that?

  • Sorry I have another one.

  • I was looking at that.

  • So good.

  • Oh my God, that was really nice.

  • Okay 321.

  • You like the chicken wings?

  • I like them.

  • They're pretty damn good.

  • I thought I thought the wings like there was no crispiness to them and the flavor wasn't anything exciting.

  • It's good but I'm sure if that was thrown in a fryer or in the oven maybe but microwave there's no crispiness to it.

  • So it's just a little bit This however the Kalbe that's actually a 10.

  • It's actually such a good flavor.

  • I'm not a fan of the I'm a big fan of it but the flavor, the flavor of that was so good.

  • But yeah, not a fan of the chicken.

  • The chicken was good alongside with a beer like you take one bite, it's not like I wouldn't eat it.

  • Yes and I've noticed like all of the convenience store started having this kind of silly.

  • Yeah I always looked at it and I'm not going to get that and now I'm literally like oh that's you can get like these already pre made frozen like insects and you put them in benton, you don't do nothing.

  • You just put it in the mental and they defrost throughout the day.

  • Then during lunch time you can eat them as is I think stuff like that they're easy to make money like this.

  • These are becoming more and more popular now.

  • People especially people like staying at home during the pandemic.

  • So like companies are making frozen food were like oh you know what, it's a big market share on it.

  • So they started making not only just like anything but like really high equality high versions of like the things that we normally get this is like you can do the 20 kids, you can buy a bunch of these 300 so you buy.

  • Yeah and also like if you, I don't know if you're like at a hotel or an Airbnb and you have just a microwave like you can just go to the convenience store, get some of this, get some rice, get any little side dishes you want and you can have like a full spread dessert time.

  • These are some traditional japanese desserts.

  • We have Goku Imo which is university potato.

  • I don't know why they call it that Very intelligent potato.

  • This is a smart potato right now he's doing 2°. It's got a masters and potato.

  • And then we also have Imagawa yaki which is a castello dove with filling.

  • So you can get it with red bean like this or like if you go to a stand usually they have like custard or other kinds of, you can get from the store as well.

  • I found that really and we learned this today.

  • You can eat these frozen as well as well as warm in this frozen.

  • It is quite nice for it.

  • I love chunky chunky bean.

  • It doesn't sound appealing.

  • Use the chunky one, chunky one.

  • This one's chunky bean.

  • It's really good.

  • I probably have the warm version and it's not sexy.

  • The warm one.

  • Yeah, please go for it.

  • Yeah, I was just like more like a pancake pancake.

  • And also so is candied sweet potato.

  • God, that's really, you've gambled too much.

  • I'm really strong guys.

  • Actually, I usually see it with black sesame seeds on it as well.

  • But this is just the candy candy.

  • That's actually one of the best.

  • I've had.

  • My God, because usually it's not, they don't crystallize the outside and the ones that I've had 321 go, it's tens across the board.

  • So damn, it's tens across the board.

  • We're not playing games.

  • Nice.

  • I am, I'm a little picky when it comes to sweets, I'm like, like white bean, red bean.

  • I'm like, it's just a personal preference.

  • I think if it was the custard version or like the caramel version, I'm 100% that it's warm.

  • It's soft, it's pancake e and has nice feeling.

  • But for me, yeah, red bean, I don't love it.

  • I'm a chunky red bean boy.

  • Okay, let's get a tent warm, delicious ice cream on that.

  • Really fantastic.

  • First time I had it equally as good.

  • Very, very good.

  • It's good, but I want to try other other flavors.

  • Yeah.

  • And then usually when I've had it, it's harder.

  • I don't know how this one's better because I wouldn't expect frozen to be better.

  • The crunch on the outside where it's like, it's like toffee almost on the outside and then the soft potato inside, I'm like, is this what it's supposed to taste like?

  • Because I've had it so many times before and I'm like, this kind of sucks.

  • I got it, but this one, it's like, oh I get it now.

  • I almost gave him, but I prefer to read more.

  • Like I, I think this one we have like a bit chill and then it's actually, but it doesn't need to microwave this one can eat so I'm not sure if it's warm and then keep the texture or not.

  • But I like this idea.

  • It was really good.

  • It was really hard on the outside.

  • So I assumed that it would be like really dry, really moist throughout the inside as well.

  • Awesome.

  • I think give it 10 just because it was so shockingly good.

  • I didn't expect, I didn't expect it.

  • We ate all the food and that's not even scratching the surface of the kind of frozen foods they have in Japan in 2020.

  • Apparently a million tons of frozen food was eaten in Japan.

  • Bloody frozen food.

  • I'm telling you this is, it's ranking is covering up the rankings rankings even though we don't know what the rankings are like.

  • I can't remember what I voted, but do you guys remember your favorite thing I do?

  • Do you really think, Oh Smokey Kalbe, I think mine as well.

  • The university potato potato.

  • Very, very hell yeah.

  • So educated, so well spoken, but we can definitely do the body with two of this episode.

  • There's so many people.

  • Yeah, that's not the comments.

  • If you liked this episode of very curious and also is there anything that we ate today that you guys would like to try let us know, but if you come to Japan definitely give the frozen food to try if you have a microwave or some kind of thing that you can cook with, it's actually really, really good.

  • But thank you so much for watching and we'll see you in the next video.

  • Bye bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye bye.

  • Oh no.

  • Oh my God, no, it's all going wrong dear, it's not bad.

  • I don't like this.

  • I'm not gonna lie.

  • I would eat this whole thing.

  • I think I will know.
