  • Welcome to the cornfield.

  • Farmers plant tiny kernels of corn.

  • Those are the seeds. They grow all summer.

  • By fall, those tiny kernels have grown into tall stalks.

  • Along each stalk, there are ears of corn.

  • The corn can be harvested

  • by a big machine called the grain combine.

  • You can't see the corn because it grows inside a husk,

  • but when you peel it back, you can see

  • that inside is the yellow corn on the cob.

  • Once the corn is harvested, then it's shipped

  • to the grocery stores and farmer's markets.

  • You can eat corn as a side dish,

  • in salsa or even right off the cob.

  • Here's some corn to make cornbread, Cookie and Gonger.

  • Welcome to the pumpkin farm.

  • You probably have seen pumpkins get carved

  • into Jack-o-lanterns at Halloween,

  • but did you know that inside the pumpkin are pumpkin seeds?

  • To grow pumpkins, all you have to do

  • is plant the seeds in the ground.

  • The pumpkin starts out as a little sprout

  • then becomes a vine.

  • At first the pumpkins are green.

  • When they get bigger they turn orange.

  • When the pumpkins are done growing,

  • they're cut off the vines with special shears.

  • Some of the pumpkins are grown in a field

  • where you can pick out your very own.

  • It's called a pumpkin patch.
