- Hey everyone, Chef Joel here with two of my good buddies,
Cookie Monster,
- Hi.
- And Elmo.
- Hello!
- I love Valentine's Day,
and what's extra exciting is that we're gonna make
a really special treat.
We're gonna make red velvet heart pancakes.
- Oh, cool! - Does that sound good?
- Yeah, Elmo's favorite color is red, Mr. Joel.
- Pancakes sound so yummy.
Oh, me love them.
You know what me going to write valentine to pancake.
Excuse me.
- Huh. - Dear Pancake.
- Good start. - Yeah.
- Oh, me shouldn't have put period there.
Maybe comma.
- Comma. - Comma there, yeah.
- Me love how delicious and yummy you are,
exclamation point.
- Yes. - That's good.
- Yes, you so delicious.
Nommy nommy.
You know, this making me hungry
just writing this Valentine.
Me no can wait for you to get here
'cause me going to eat, oh no!
Nom nom nommy nom.
- We should probably start cooking
before Cookie Monster eats anything else.
- Elmo, I think you're right.
And I guarantee you,
our red velvet pancakes are gonna taste better
than that card.
All right, you ready for our first ingredient
for these red velvet pancakes?
- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - Ready!
- Okay.
First ingredient is cooked beets.
Two of them.
- What, are you sure?
- Yeah! Beets.
- Wait, we making pancakes.
- Yes!
They're so sweet, they taste like candy
and they're gonna give an amazing color to our pancakes.
So I'm gonna add these into a blender
and then I'm gonna add a cup of non-fat milk.
And then we going to blend this whole thing up.
You ready?
- Ready! - Pretty color.
- Close your ears.
- Yeah.
- Now look at that Valentine-y color.
Next step is we're gonna take.
Look at that beautiful color of the beets
and the non fat milk right into a bowl.
A little bit of vegetable oil.
I've got some honey and then vanilla.
Two eggs and now we're going to whisk it on up.

What's wrong, Cookie Monster?
- You okay?
- Me locked into whisk.
- Oh, should I stop?
- Me shouldn't have looked at whisk.
(Joel and Elmo laughing)
- [Joel] All right, Cookie.
You wanna do the dry ingredients with me?
- [Cookie Monster] Okay, me would love that.
- [Joel] All right.
First, we're gonna add some whole wheat flour
then some all purpose flour.
- [Cookie Monster] All purpose.
Yeah, okay.
- [Joel] Baking powder.
- [Cookie Monster] Lot of powder going in, okay.
- [Joel] And salt.
- [Cookie Monster] Salt, okay.
- All right, Elmo and Cookie.
So we've got two teams here.
We've got our wet team.
- Yeah. - Yeah.
- And we've got our dry team.
And almost always when you make treats,
that's the way it works
is you start with the wet ingredients
and you do the dry ingredients and then you combine them.
So at this point I'm gonna combine the two teams
to make our batter.
- Oh hey batter batter batter batter, swing batter!
With two teams we got batter batter batter
We playing baseball?
- Not that type of batter, Cookie.
This is a pancake batter
and we're gonna whisk it up until all the lumps
are totally gone.
And then we're gonna transfer it
into a little bottle like this so we can draw hearts.
So either a pan or a griddle like we have here
and we're just getting it on a medium, high heat.
And then we're gonna grab a little bit of olive oil
and this helps it so that the pancakes don't stick
to the pan.
Then, remember we put our batter inside.
- Hey batter batter batter
- Hey batter batter batter - Batter batter batter.
- I'll never say batter again.
I'll never say batter again.
So we took our pancake mixture.
We put it in a squeeze bottle and now watch this.
It's almost like you're drawing.
We're gonna make a heart.
- [Elmo] That's like your drawing.
- Isn't that cool?
And we're just gonna fill it in
just like you were filling it in, in a picture book.
I think Cookie Monster should try and make a pancake.
- Okay.
- Ready? - Yeah.
- Okay. Give it a shot.
- Elmo's gonna stand back.
(Cookie Monster humming)
- Yes. - Oh, that's great.
- [Joel] That's good, right?
- That's really good.
- How about one for Elmo?
How do you know when the pancakes are ready to flip?
Does anyone know?
- They tell you?
- Pancakes don't talk Cookie Monster!
No! - Oh.
- The good thing to do is to look for the bubbles
and if there's little bubbles on top
and you can even lift up the bottom.
You can see it starting to look.
So are you ready to flip?
- Yes. - Ready to flip!
- All right, here we go.
I'm gonna get my spatula underneath
and really, really really confidently,
which means you just know it's gonna go good,
you just flip it over.
- That was so confident.
- All right, so you know what I think would be so nice?
Is if you, Cookie Monster flipped Elmo's pancake.
- Oh, me would love to.
- [Elmo] That would be nice, thank you.
- Okay, do it.
Yeah!
Good job, Cookie.
- Nice flipping.
- Thank you.
- That is a very sweet move.
These look so delicious and they smell great, right?
- Yeah. - Yeah.
- Now there's so many options
of what you can put as toppings.
Elmo, what did you do?
- Elmo did blueberries.
- That looks so good.
I'm gonna do a little powdered sugar.
And what about you, Cookie Monster?
- Me did both.
- You did both?
Smart move.
- Thank you.
- Well, I think we should dig in.
What do you think?
- Yeah, let's do.
- Let's do it!
