  • Hello, Psych2Goers, welcome back!

  • Okay, picture this.

  • You're on your first date with the person of your dreams.

  • You've planned every last detail: from the fuzzy orange sweater you'll wear to the cozy cat cafe you'll go to.

  • You arrive at the cafe.

  • Kittens abound and see them waiting for you at your table.

  • That's when you realize: "What on earth will I say?"

  • I mean, what happens after hello?

  • Existential questions swirl in your head.

  • "What will we talk about? How will I get to know them? Will we just talk about cats?"

  • While spending the day discussing animals at a cat cafe sounds fun for most,

  • it's not always the best way to get to know someone,

  • unless they'd specifically defined themselves as "the notorious cat person."

  • So, to steer you in the right direction, here are some questions to help you really get to know someone fast.

  • All right, number one: If you were immortal, how would you spend your life?

  • This question really gets them to think about what they truly want to do

  • and how they keep themselves entertained and happy, even well into the years of immortality.

  • Number two: What is the one thing people misunderstand about you?

  • Often, others can misread us.

  • If only we could let others know who we really are and clear up their misconceptions about us;

  • this question gives them a chance to finally explain themselves and show who they really are.

  • Number three: How do you want to be remembered?

  • This question can really give insight into another's values in life.

  • Do they want to be known for their achievements, their kindness, their relationships?

  • Number four: What's on your bucket list this year?

  • Most of us secretly have a bucket list sitting at the back of our brain piling up.

  • Instead of focusing on your life's bucket list, ask them what they want to do this year.

  • They may just have a surprising answer.

  • Be sure to share your bucket list as well once they've answered.

  • Number five: What's something you've dreamt about doing for a long time?

  • Why haven't you done it?

  • For many of us, our dreams and goals are an important part of our lives.

  • Upon talking about their interests and dreams, ask about something they haven't yet been able to do.

  • Not only will this question give insight into who they want to become,

  • but the "why" may even give clues into what they're going through in the present.

  • Number six: What is your most treasured memory?

  • This question can really give insight into their past.

  • How far back does their memory go?

  • Is it from childhood, the present?

  • Is someone else involved in the memory?

  • Number seven: Do you have a philosophy you like to live by?

  • This question will either tell you how they're living or how they want to live.

  • The next question you have to ask yourself is, does this make you compatible?

  • Okay, number eight: Where do you see yourself after five years?

  • Everybody gets this question at a job interview, and while it may seem boring, it's asked for a reason.

  • It shows you if they like to plan ahead, if they have goals,

  • or if they like to live carefree and see where life takes them.

  • Number nine: What's your favorite book or show?

  • You need to know this question because any good friend or partner knows the answer to this question.

  • It can tell you many little things.

  • One: It will tell you if they like to read or not.

  • Two: Are they more of a TV or film person?

  • And the "why" is where it really gets interesting.

  • What was it about this movie or novel that affected them?

  • And number 10: What truly makes you happy?

  • We are our best selves when we're happy.

  • So, isn't it important to know what it is that it makes us feel this joy?

  • They may have to think about this one for a moment, or maybe they just know it right away.

  • Either way, talking about what makes us happy is likely to, well, make us happy.

  • So, you're already off to a great start.

  • Which of these questions intrigued you the most?

  • Which will you use on your next date or get together with a friend?

  • Will you ask them at a cat cafe?

  • Let us know in the comments down below, and be sure to share with us how it went once you ask them.

  • Until then, we will be waiting in anticipation.
