  • As the eighth Secretary General, I have been exposed to indescribable suffering which has left me shocked and sometimes it despairing and heart breaking.

  • But I have also seen the pest of humanity, courage, resilience and compassion and creativity and global solidarity.

  • These things give me hope for the future.

  • Music is the language of peace for people, especially those of their political responsibilities, to be able to stop for a moment and listening to these fantastic harmony of the New York Philharmonic and to the genius of Mozart and Beethoven, Toe understands that's we need that harmony and that genius in orderto finally F peace in the world.

  • As musicians, we want to do good to make a difference but often feel a sense of inadequacy.

  • What really can we do, For example, in the face of what is currently unfolding in Aleppo, we're not politicians or diplomats.

  • We play music, but music does have a unique power.

  • It speaks to the hearts of people from different traditions, different cultures in a way that can be far more direct than any spoken language.

  • there is no need for translation, no need for intercession, no need for explanation.

  • And we as musicians, are determined to do what we can to help make the world a better place.
