In plural. Tubular shaped extensions to men's trunk hose, designed to cover the lower thighs and knees, and to fill the gap between trunk hose and stockings, common in the 16th and 17th centuries. Also (especially in the 17th century): ornamental rolls or frills worn around the knees, either as the termination of stockings or attached to breeches.
