“Good morning, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight!” Truman Burbank

Good day everyone, and welcome to the Pronunciation Challenge! For all the new Voicetuber listeners, my name is Hugh and I’ll be your host for today’s episode.
The Truman Show! This is one of my favorite Jim Carey movies! This movie is about a man who has no idea his entire life is being filmed! Everything in his life is meticulously planned. (meticulous means planned very carefully, down to the littlest detail) Truman seems to be living the perfect life until he starts to see hints that everything is not ok. He starts to do things off-script, which means that he’s doing things that weren’t written or planned in the script. He learns what it’s like to be spontaneous! Let’s get to the featured sentence first before I tell you about a time I was spontaneous!

Today’s featured sentence:
“After observing strange events and behaviors, Truman begins to question his sanity.”

I’ll say that again.

“After observing strange events and behaviors, Truman begins to question his sanity.”

Ok, now time for the Pronunciation Tips.

For the first word, we have
observing
Three syllables.
“OB” has a short U sound. Try saying “pub” like where you drink and say that without the P sound. With “SER”, instead of an S in front, try saying it with a Z sound instead. “VING” has your typical “ING” sound. Observing.

Next up, we have
behaviors
Three syllables
“BE” sounds the same as the letter B. “HA” has a long A sound. “VIOR” kind of sounds like two syllables but it’s actually blended into one. Try saying “VEE” first like the letter V and then say “ear” like the body part. “VEE EAR”. Now say it quickly. Behavior.

Lastly, we have,
sanity
Three syllables.
“SAN” has a short A sound. “NI” has a short U sound. “TY” sounds like the letter T. Sanity.

Moving onto Vocabulary!

The first word is:
1. observe
Definition
to watch carefully the way something happens or the way someone does something, especially in order to learn more about it
Used in a sentence you could say,
“My science teacher told us to observe all details.”

Next word,
2. behavior
Definition
the way that someone behaves
Used in a sentence, you could say:
“The student was in detention for his bad behaviour.”

And lastly,
3. sanity
Definition:
the state of having a healthy mind and not being mentally ill
Used in a sentence, you could say:
“After what I saw, I questioned my sanity.”

I hope you guys plan to watch this movie after this episode! It has such an interesting idea and you don’t see many movies like that anymore. I’m so sick and tired of superhero movies, to be honest.
Yes, my story about being spontaneous. First off, if you weren’t paying attention, spontaneous means doing something unplanned. When I go traveling, it’s often scary to go somewhere you’re not familiar with, especially if you don’t speak the local language. However, if you take the chance, you might discover something amazing or create a long-lasting memory which I did in Vietnam! I was actually in Hanoi and following a food tour plan of places I wanted to try. I was getting a little tired of following a plan all the time with my head constantly looking at my phone so I decided to just put my phone down and explore. After some walking, I managed to find these train tracks with a bunch of shops right on the railroad itself! I’ll never forget it because the scene was so beautiful and I felt so happy that I accidentally found it.
This also happened to me in Korea when I decided to not follow the plan and ended up finding this grandma who made delicious Korean food in a tent outside in the cold. I still think that was the most delicious meal I’ve ever had in Korea.

Ok, I can go on but let’s end the episode here. Make sure to get those recordings in! Until the next episode, bye!
