“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.” - Buddha
Hello, Voicetube listeners! It’s Hubert back again with an episode about a topic that we all need right now being stuck indoors during this pandemic.. The topic I’ll be presenting today is the sun and the benefits we get from sunlight! Have any of you guys ever felt like you lacked the energy to do anything during the long winter months? There’s actually a scientific reason for this. Sunlight provides us with Vitamin D! Do you know what one symptom from a lack of vitamin D is? First off, what is a symptom? A symptom is a physical or mental problem that a person experiences that may indicate a disease or condition. So what is one symptom you could get when you don’t get enough vitamin D? The answer would be depression! For Chinese speakers, that would be 憂鬱症. I know with lockdowns and restrictions in some countries, going outside isn’t that simple anymore. This video gives you some tips on how you can get more sunlight from even inside your home. Let’s get to the featured sentence first before coming back to me.
Today’s featured sentence:
But did you know that natural sunlight has innumerable health benefits, both physically and emotionally?
I’ll say that again.
But did you know that natural sunlight has innumerable health benefits, both physically and emotionally?
Ok, now time for the Pronunciation Tips.
For the first word, we have
Innumerable
Five syllables.
“IN” is like the word, “in” from “in and out”, “NU” sounds like “new” like you bought a brand new jacket. “MER” has your typical E R sound with an M in front. “A” has a short A sound and “BLE” sounds like the animal, “bull”. Innumerable.
Next up, we have
Physically
Four syllables
“PHY” has a short i sound with an F sound in front. “SI” has a short i sound. The last two syllables are blended together to give “CALLY”. If you were to spell out this sound, it’ll be something like “KLEE”. Physically.
Lastly, we have,
Emotionally
Five syllables.
“E” has a long E sound. “MO” has a short O sound. “TION” has your typical “I O N” sound, “SHUN”. “NAL” sounds it’s spelt “NULL”, and “LY” sounds like Lee, as in Bruce Lee. Emotionally.
Moving on to Vocabulary!
The first word is:
1. innumerable
Definition
too many to be counted
Used in a sentence you could say,
“The project has been delayed by innumerable problems.”
Next word,
2. physically
Definition
in a way that relates to the body or someone's appearance
Used in a sentence, you could say:
“Walking up all those steps was physically exhausting.”
And lastly,
3. emotionally
Definition:
in a way that relates to the emotions
Used in a sentence, you could say:
“Watching the movie Soul was emotionally draining.”
Here’s another phrase for everyone to pay attention to. Circadian rhythm. That is the internal clock you have inside your body and explains why we get jet lag because our bodies are programmed to sleep after some time. As to what time we should naturally sleep is entirely dependent on where we are located. I break all the rules here and I usually go to bed right before the sun comes up. For some reason, I get most of my work done then. Do not learn from me and go get some sun people!
Alright, make sure you get your recordings in before you go outside (with a mask on) for that walk to get some much needed vitamin D! I’ll be taking a nap in the afternoon sun whenever I can going forward! Hit me up on Instagram if you haven’t already @hughtran_ and I’ll see everyone in the next episode, bye!
