Hi everyone, I'm Niharika and welcome back. Well as I said in today's lesson, we are going

to learn different adjectives that would help you to talk about different voices. Now some

people in this world, have very soft and pleasant voice. There are some people who are very

loud, annoying and irritating. So like I said that now two people have the same exact voice,

yes, that is a fact. But we do have different types of voices. So when you meet someone

and if in case you are talking about that person and you want to say that what kind

of voice, he or she has. Well these are the words or adjectives that you can use. So let's

The very first adjective that I have for you here, is croaky or it is also called as hoarse.

Okay these two words have the same meaning, which means that someone who has a croaky

or a hoarse voice has a very low and a rough voice. Like for example, may be you have a

sore throat. Okay so when you have a sore throat, you don't sound the same. Your voice

is very low and very rough like Hi; I’m Niharika, something like that. So that's a

very croaky or a hoarse voice. Now there are people who have this kind of a voice but when

you call someone and someone has a sore throat and you think that he sounds different, then

you can say, hey, why do you sound so hoarse? Or why do you sound so croaky? So the meaning

Okay let's have a look at the second adjective, which is flat. Hm.. Flat. Yes I have met so

many people who do not have any intonation in their speech. The way they speak is, hi,

this is Niharika, well I’m from India and I’m a trainer, I teach English. The voice

is flat, without any intonation. There is no rise and fall in my voice and that's why

the type of voice that I have is, flat, okay. Alright so people who have a flat voice, just

sounds so boring and very monotonous, right? Do you agree? Yes, so if you know anybody,

then please mention that you have such a flat voice, okay.

Let’s have a look at the third adjective, which is high pitched. Yes, some people have

a very loud squeaky voice, okay. So when they have to say something or they are just talking,

having a regular conversation. But because of their voice which is high pitched, they

tend to go really loud and squeaky. So it's something like," Hey Niharika, you know this

is what happened the other day. " So this is high- pitched voice. So it's a loud, squeaky

Another one, husky. Yes husky is, this adjective is very typically used for men and in a very

attractive way. So some people like, some men especially have a very rough, low and

deep voice, Umm... I can’t really pretend but husky is said to be an attractive voice

for men. So it's very deep, low and rough voice and it's kind of pleasant to our ears.

Okay so it's rough, low, attractive voice and in fact deep as well. Rough, low, deep,

attractive voice. Okay so that's husky for you.

Another one, modulated. Now someone who has a very modulated tone or a modulated voice

is someone who has a very clear and very pleasant voice. Now people especially actors, you know

many actors in the film industry, they have a very pleasant voice. So when you have to

describe that type of voice, the perfect adjective that you can use in English is, modulated.

Well have you heard about her? Or have you heard her ever, she has such a perfect modulated

voice. So which means, very clear and pleasant.

Okay, the next one, nasal. What’s nasal? Nasal voice is, Hi I'm Niharika, how you doing?

So someone who speaks through their nose. Yes so they don't really make use of their

vocal chords but along with their vocal chords, they also remove their voice out of their

nose. So it's like, hey, how are you? That’s funny, isn't it? Yes there are so many people

who do that so that's nasal voice for you. So someone who speaks through their nose.

So those people have a nasal voice. Okay.

Let’s have a look at another one, which is, orotund. No someone who has an orotund

voice has a very powerful voice. You know like, i have this neighbour and for the first

time I spoke to him, I was so intimidated, because the moment he opened his mouth, he

said hello Niharika, how are you? And his voice was so loud, clear and so powerful.

So that kind of powerful voice, the perfect adjective that you can use is orotund. So

I met this person, who has an orotund voice. So someone who has a very intimidating, powerful

and very clear speech and yes this adjective is considered to be very formal. Okay it is

a very formal word in English, so use it for the people, who have this nice powerful stern

Alright, let's move on to another adjective, which is silvery. Well silvery is an adjective

that you can use especially for women. Now many people or many women have a very pleasant

and a very soft soothing voice. Yes, so for such women you can use the adjective, silvery.

voice. So silvery is someone who is very soft-spoken and has this beautiful voice. So a silvery

voice? you know when you are nervous or when someone is just about to cry, the voice changes

like Uhh, well today I am really, really nervous. Okay so that's a wobbly voice. Again there

is a rise and fall in your voice but still you sound very low and sound very nervous.

Like you are talking to someone and this person is just about to cry and the voice would immediately

change. Like something like, well I didn't know that but... so... yes, it's low, it has

a rise and fall and it just gives you an idea that this person is nervous. So if someone

sounds like that, you can say, hey you have a wobbly voice, what is wrong with you? Is

everything okay? Right so, these are ten adjectives that you can use to talk about different voices.
